You're not wrong. But neither is Chem. And I have the same hesitation with Spieth.

You're right, he's more than just good around the greens. But he makes his money from 20 ft and beyond. He's not great from 10 and in....so his proximity is a little misleading. He also isn't a great driver of the ball...which puts him behind the 8 ball right from the get go.

The charm of Spieth is he's clutch and makes putts tha others just don't. But when he isn't doing that, he's nothing special. Others can overcome their faults....his get him in trouble at times.

If he can keep up what he does well, he'll be a great. But that will be very hard. It's a slippery slope with him.

And this is coming from the biggest Spieth fan here.

The Masters last year was a joke

i don't buy/see that it's a slippery slope ... he was t98th in 10-15 ft putts, ahead of watson/dj/rose ... the best putters from that distance were average in performance last year ... he's not a great driver, but he finished 11th in birdies from the right rough (behind bubba and dj) and 1st from the left rough (well ahead of bubba and dj) ... he doesn't have to be great form 10 ft in ... tom watson wasn't known for his ball striking, but he won 30 tournaments and 8 majors ... getting the ball in the hole is the name of the game, and he's done that to the tune of 7 tournament wins in his first 3 years, far ahead of the pace of other long hitters/ball strikers ... his tee/green game is more than adequate, imo ...

edit: not particular to any golfer, just like arguing golf ...

Had DJ over Serg and JThomas over spieth (+150) for 1st round so a good start.

DJ is 9-1 now, Kuchar is 40-1 and Scott is 25-1
any thoughts on the odds on those 3?

Adam Scott looks really good but all those odds seem short.

I know it looks a little easier now, but I loved DJ at 9-1 before this morning. Played really well at Riviera last year, and he always wins on the tour at some point in the year.

I had him yesterday in Round 1 and he bogeyed 2 of the last 3 to push against Streb.

Was pissed.

Took Adam Scott at 25-1 and Kuchar at 40-1 very small, hard to take less than 10-1 on someone with 3 rounds left.

Cut Update ~

Casey -120 ov Scott
Bradley -135 ov Jacobson PUSH
Rodgers -140 ov Mahan LOSS
Finau -105 ov Streb LOSS

Rodgers and Finau blow up today. Keegan goes 3 over in his last 6 including a 4ft miss for par on 18 to push at 1 over with Jacobson. Shaping up to be a nasty week.

Thought of you when I saw he missed on 18. Guessing you're not the biggest Keegan fan right now

Dottie Pepper just did a thing on the College Golf in the area of UCLA and Eddie Merrins was talked about. I actually have played Golf at Bel Aire CC and met Mr. Merrins and his son who is an LSU Alum. Just small thing some on here might think is interesting.

I wonder what drew his son to LSU? I would have thought UCLA or USC would have been the choice unless he wanted to get totally away from the west coast.

His son saw me first with my LSU pull over it was chilly and foggy that morning and he actually had an LSU pull over on and we starting talking and found out who he was and he said he just wanted to go to LSU for no other reason. He actually left after 2 years and went to UCLA. He said he was doing a little to much partying.

My caddie was the guy in BAD BOYS 2 who ran the video store who freaked out in the store. Minnesota was what we called the caddie.

Bel Aire is the only place in the world where all four major trophies are in the same place. Normans British Palmers Masters and Ken Ventures US Open and not sure who the PGA trophy was from.
