I would find some cheaper used irons IMO. You'll outgrow those hybrid irons fast.

For 2 bones, he isn't gonna get much. That's not bad to get it going and build a swing.

I wouldn't know what to get these days if I was just starting. So much to choose from.

He could find some newer irons off craigslist or even GolfWRX. They won't be great, but some cheap sets can be had.

I would take lessons over those new irons.

I'm gonna take a lesson one day.

I've fought it. But I'm giving in.

I can imagine. I've been pretty stubborn about wanting to do it without help.

That's in the past.

Give in ... You'll enjoy it. I'm a 9 handicap now ... Was 15.. Added 35 plus yards on my drives. All round better player.

I almost got one from one of the asst. pros at MSU last year. But then I figured out my swing.

I figure I'll score some lessons from the pro whenever I end up at a nice course.

If I added 35 plus yards to my drives I'd have to tee off with a 9 iron.

Lessons are important if your goal is to truly improve and you are willing to put in the work. If you are not willing to do the work don't waste your money.

Especially if you wear the "17" hat to match and show how many yards you gained for buying one.
