I still have an old R5 in the closet. Hit it pretty straight with a little draw but ditched it in search of more distance with all these super drivers. Still searching but everytime I open that closet I am tempted to put the old R5 bag in the bag.

Beard, how do you pick the correct golf ball.? Is it swing speed or spin rate? I would imagine the slower the speed the softer the ball. What If you have a relatively low speed but high spin cause your swing sucks?

Janks I'v hit Bridgeston, calloway and prov and pv1
i think ive settled on prov1x get the best distance and control with it

That is what I am wondering. My driver speed is kinda low and I play the prov1. I am thinking about hitting the x to squeak out a little more distance and lowering spin, but wasn't sure if my swing could compress them adequately.

Best advice I could give: buy a sleeve of each ball you want to try. Start with the putter, test every ball and pick a winner. Then move to the chipping green, hit pitches and chips and pick a winner. Then during a round hit shots with the balls the you liked best around the green and with the putter. I wouldn't get caught up in compression or swing speeds when picking a golf ball.

Ok, but swing speed does impact performance of the ball, correct? 98 mph with driver and 85 mph with 6 iron. Is that adequate for an x? I don't want the ball to be a detriment.
ETA: I am gonna play an x today and see how it goes. Tomorrow, I will have time to compare side by side. I used to use pentas and they were really good.

How many millions did Taylormade pay Golf Digest for that first ever perfect score?

The only other ball i have ever played with on a consistent basis other than titliest, was Maxfli
and that was way back in the 80s and 90s I liked that ball

not really. Thats why i have never understood bridgestones marketing about swing speed and compression. If i swing 110 and you swing 100 technically if we are good ball strikers we can compress the ball the same.

Ok, with that theory all things being equal would an x go further than a prov1? What about spin rates?
Posted on 2/21/14 at 7:18 am to theBeard
I agree. I'm supposed to have too high of a swing speed for the Duo, but it just works for me.

i would focus less about swing speed and focus on what ball performs the best. I have hit every 2013 golf ball that was available to the public and didn't see a huge difference in the premium balls.

if you spin the ball with all clubs more than normal technically the X would go further because it should spin less then the V.
