Oh yeah. Just different to see it so late.
Champion Turf Farms is in Bay City, so they know what they are doing for the Houston area.

is three months about typical for grown in good enough start play?

If I didn't have the most nitro 3w ever I probably would jump on that

Yeah. Some can push it faster. Just depends all on the weather you get.
Last year, we had a lot of overcast days. So we were a bit slower than I'd like until August. Then it was HOT and no rain, and those things freaking took off.
So if you can get some weeks with no rain and hot weather, you'll be in business.

is there any reason not to put sand on freshly punched greens?
Mini-Verde grass on said greens

None at all? Not to my knowledge.
Ive seen 100% of the greens punched topdressed after. You may mix in some fertilizer or some amendments to the soil, if needed. But you gotta fill those holes.
Maybe, after you needle-tined it. But most places are pulling cores. Needle-tine you will just poke holes. Pulling cores, you are take out little plugs of the grass and soil. So you are removing a good bit of organic matter that needs to be replaced.

what I thought, but just checking...some guys were asking

I know a lot of courses that have an aggressive topdressing program. They'll topdress every week at a lighter rate rather than heavier times. Less noticeable at a more frequent, lower rate.

we dust ours almost every two weeks

Thats the norm I'd say. It takes some manpower to put it out.
MSU greens are SLOW right now. I'm hoping the aerification will help it out at the beginning of July. Harsh winter, even with the covers.
