the braves have been extremely impressive so far...nats fans are shaking in their boots and trying hard not to show it.

Lol. Like someone said, the Nationals were going balls deep in the Braves even when they sucked. They were the best team in the league last year before they shut Stras down, and they're the best team in the league this year.

well the braves have had a lot of success against strasburg. their biggest braves killer in lannan is gone. the braves had a lot of success against the nats the last month or 2 of last season so i dont put too much stock in the nats "owning the braves", especially since this braves team is totally different than past braves teams. this braves team has a much better lineup which is more balanced than before. also the nats got a career year from laroche last year and he is highly unlikely to equal that this year. also the nats were extremely lucky with injuries last year. they did have their share of injuries but they were lucky they all occured at a position of depth. all signs point to the braves closing the gap this year with room to spare which wasnt very big last year. just 4 games difference. thats 1 game every 6 weeks.

You are correct that LaRoche is unlikely to have a year comparable to '12.
You are also correct that the Braves played much better against the Nats late last season; we will see what that means for this year. Personally, I hope not to see any repeats of the late season Sunday night beat down your Braves administered to Gio and the Nats that we witnessed at Turner Field.
As a Braves fan, you have every right to believe that your off season moves make your team stronger and more than offset the retirement of Chipper and the other losses. If I recall, Chipper and Ben Sheets (Ben Sheets?) and some others no longer on your roster played a pretty big role in some of that late season success against the Nats. I do think you're better than last year overall; whether that means you match up better against the Nats, I guess we'll find out.
So far, the Braves look very good and I doubt that any Nats fan, in his or her heart of hearts, really believes that the Braves are not fully capable of winning the division.
But, if you don't believe the Nats were hurt by losing significant parts of the season for Ryan Zimmerman, Werth, Desmond, Morse, Ramos and three back up catchers, Storen, and by Espinosa's undisclosed injury down the stretch, we simply have to part ways.
And don't you, if you're honest, harbor some tiny amount of doubt that Medlin can put up a year as effective as last?
And don't you deep down fear that a full year of a more mature Harper, a full year of Strasburg, a more consistent and established closer in Soriano, a much upgraded outfield defensively, and a full year of Ramos/Suzuki behind the plate at least add up to the possibility that the Nats will be pretty good again?
I personally think the two teams are pretty evenly matched on paper. Do I wish the Nats were less bally-hooed and that our fans and the pundits were not tempting the baseball gods with all this sily dynasty-like talk about a team/franchise that, to this point, has minimal accomplishments? Absolutely.
But do I look forward to the prospect that the Nats, and the Braves, turn out to be two of the best teams on the fiel and fight it out all the way? Again, absolutely. And do I believe, truly believe, that the Nats can come out on top again and then follow it up with post-season success? Yes, I do. And I even more fervently hope for it and no Braves or other fan will cause me to give that up until and unless the Nats take their lumps in actual games, not on message boards.
Now, back to worrying about the weekend series with the Reds.

Even when the Marlins have been bad they have historically just killed the Nats. Nice to see the Nats start off w/ a sweep of the fish.
I'm hoping for about a half decade of epic Nats-Braves races to be the best team in the NL East (and hopefully in the entire NL).
