This has been an ongoing saga since the name change from SLI to USL in 1960. There's newspaper articles of the LSU President at the time "cautioning" the name change for whatever reason. This isn't anything new.

Nearly all states have a "University of ::state name::" and a "::state name:: State University", respectively. I'd be find having our own "University of Louisiana" here too, assuming they do the work to become the flagship of the UL system (with the other schools agreeing to be satellite universities). But frick y'all just falling arse backwards into it because you think you can just take it from your other member institutions. I graduated from LSU but I also went to fellow UL system Southeastern for awhile. ULL shouldn't be privy to just grabbing that mantle because you just feel like it. Buy into it and sure. But until then, the name you all agreed not to use should be respected.

Man, I was gonna type out a long akshually post, but I'll settle with this:
You can call us USL, ULL, or ULLLLLL, but saying we're falling arse backwards - our university just became one of only two public institutions to achieve an R1 Carnegie classification. We are the poster child for doing more with less.

That's great. Now start negotiating with your sister UL system schools for flagship status of the UL system and you'll have my support.
Until then, you're violating the rules you agreed to. There is no single "University of Louisiana" and your university should be punished for doing so.

This just about sums up why the state of Louisiana is dead last in everything good. We should be focusing on more productive stuff around here than this.
