Ascension Episcopal coach Eric Mouton has pointed to games against Lafayette Christian Academy in the past when expressing frustration with what he and others say is an imbalance of talent in the district. The Knights have won by an average of more than 50 points through the first five games of District 7-1A.

“That was a high school basketball team versus an AAU team,” Mouton said. “How could I not get frustrated? They’ve got kids from all over the state eligible today through arbitration that probably cost them $50,000 ... that’s a team that could beat UL.”

Louisville would beat LCA by 70. That is ridiculous.

Byron Starks is a lot nicer person than Eric Mouton. It's funny because they played together at USL. Eric Mouton always seemed like a jerk. Byron Starks was always very nice and humble.

I've watched LCA highlights on the local news and the dunks these "high schoolers" pull off is just unreal. I'd guess 2/3 of that team can throw one down

I know a lot of coaches like that. Great people away from the game, very polite and humble. But once they start coaching (and get success) they and their teams are anything but humble/class acts.

All, if not most, of the schools in south louisiana are a joke. The academies, lab schools, and other private schools should play in a separate league. like they do in most states. Schools like Arcadia,in towns less than 3,000 people, are at a distinct disadvantage but still find away to compete with the schools that literally recruit like a college.

To be fair, vast majority of private schools can't compete against schools like this. LCA destroyed every 1A private school they played this year.

One main reason for the split is that every time Curtis, or whoever, loses, in a massive upset, the story is that they lost. The teams that beat them never get the proper credit for winning...

The privates in other states play in separate leagues on their own choosing because they can't compete with the publics. If the publics could provide an education worth a damn, this wouldn't be a problem.

It looks like it's the first taste of success for a lot of them and they don't handle it well.

I thought the same thing when I watched them play. They are definitely the oddball in district.

Something tells me you won't see their baseball fans acting up.

Apparently they just do whatever the pastor tells them to. A lot of them aren't even sports fans, they just go and yell because it's LCA.
