I went there early 90’s and it was a really good school. Baseball team was good every year under Maestri and went to Omaha once or twice. Basketball team was good.. had some good players and Tim Floyd was the coach before he hit the big time. Academics was good too. The most famous historian of our time was on the faculty at his peak. I took a WW2 class from Ambrose the Spring semester that Band of Brothers was released. He brought the real guys like Winters, Lipton and others to a seminar he put on at The Pontchartrain Hotel(? Memory may fail me on location) on St Charles. That got the university a lot of attention. It’s a shame to hear how far downhill it’s gone.

Belhaven is a private, religious institution... so there's a respectable chance the coach is taking a pay cut for the title of "division 1 head coach" at UNO
Stop it, there’s no way any NAIA is paying more than any D1

I was at Lakefront arena last year for Brother Martin's graduation, first time I had been inside since Katrina, I was impressed with the renovations

Maestri Field can't be any worse than the Lakefront Arena. The Arena has great shows there but is in terrible need of renovations! Small, cramped venue!
I went for a concert back in December. It’s a bit dated (such as bathroom fixtures) but I wouldn’t say it was bad or anything was broken. It is actually great size for concerts: not too big and not too small. Even the last row is still a good view and the sound was great

I don't think it's impossible. The Murray St coach, for instance, is paid $68k/year. Blake Dean, after coaching at UNO for almost a decade, was only making $80k/year. His starting salary was only $60k when he first signed to be their coach
This was a survey done by the ABCA a year ago. For DIII coaches (Belhaven is DIII not NAIA, they moved to DIII almost 10 years ago), they had an average salary of $65k, a median salary of $61k, and a max salary of $125k (and just for the sake of argument, NAIA coaches' numbers are $56k, $54k, and $105k on those same metrics)

With UNO's current budgetary issues, it wouldn't totally shock me if they pay a coach less than they paid Dean when they signed him.

Per the UL system board of supervisors approval of his contract extension: $80k base salary, plus another ~$15-$20k in performance incentives, plus $25-40k in media incentives depending on the year
80k becomes 120k with media appearances
July 2025 to June 2026 : 20k multimedia appearances and $20k for public appearances
Don’t these guys make money with camps too?

Belhaven was moving in the right direction, very nice campus and facilities. Hopefully your son has other offers he can explore. The Juco teams in the NO area, Mississippi, and Texas are pretty good. Best of luck to yall

We are ok staying with Belhaven as long as the pitching coach is retained.
