The fringe element over there is truly militant. You'd gather they care more about what they are called than their actual school and the success of its teams. It's rarely, "how'd the team do?" to them, but rather, "what did the announcer call us?"

what's the cause of resentment for current students that cheer loudly at ULL home games if it is announced LSU is losing?

Because they all know that it'll cause a weekly 10+ page thread full of bitching from the LSU faithful of why Cajun fans don't bow down to "da flagship."

This thread has nothing to do with what LSU fans allegedly want UL-L fans to do. We're just totally stumped why you people can't get your own name correct. It's truly baffling to us. We know we're better than you in every quantifiable way; whether you "bow down" to "da flagship" or not, well, that's your prerogative.

to be fair ULL fired the first shots in this war. their fans for some odd reason began a hate filled vendetta against LSU in the past few years

Here is a good read which I think will help you understand how the UL resentment towards LSU started. LINK

That's like me saying that LSU isn't your correct name and pulling the whole "LSU and A&M" card, since that is your legal name. But this will turn into 10+ more pages of mudslinging which I don't have time for.

I would have no issue if anyone would call us LSU A&M I actually prefer it

And that's great. You can call yourself LSU, LSU A&M, or whatever and nobody in Lafayette would care. But as it is, people in Baton Rouge tend to jump on you for having the audacity to not say or emphasize Lafayette in UL's name.

That is our name; you wouldn't get any mudslinging here. It's something to be proud of, not ashamed of. I don't understand why UL-L fans try and throw that in our faces.

We are Louisiana State University by state law. You are not University of Louisiana by state law. See the difference?

You made a name for yourself; one the legislature prohibits you from using. Sorry people in Baton Rouge don't recognize UL-L's petulance.

ETA: Should have said people outside of Lafayette, not just Baton Rouge.

I don't see where the U of L thing distinguishes either.

ULL
is
U of L at L

We maintain our official name as The University of Louisiana at Lafayette and brand ourselves as Louisiana "similar to UC Berkeley (“CALIFORNIA”), UT Knoxville (“TENNESSEE”), UA Fayetteville (“ARKANSAS”), UNC Chapel Hill ("NORTH CAROLINA"), and UT Austin (“TEXAS”)" Do you also have a problem with these schools?

Nope, but I'm sure their University Systems allow for that. Let me give you a quote from the policy of the Board of Trustees for State Colleges and Universities (as authorized to rule on this matter by the Louisiana State Legislature):

quote:

There shall be no institution designated as the main (primary) campus for the University of Louisiana System. Any designation of or reference to a member institution as “flagship,” “lead,” “main,” or by other similar descriptors is prohibited.

I would say branding yourself as "Louisiana" violates that.

quote:

All institutions within the University of Louisiana System are to comply with the following precepts and guidelines set forth to govern and coordinate the use of the University of Louisiana name and logo

quote:

A. As previously stated, there is no main campus for the University of Louisiana System. Any designation of or reference to a member institution as “flagship,” “lead,” “main,” or other similar descriptor is prohibited.

I found this one particularly interesting:

quote:

C. The use of the two-letter University of Louisiana abbreviation, “UL,” and/or the phrase “U of L” are prohibited by the university or any of its affiliated organizations (alumni associations, development foundations, bookstores, etc.). For academic, public relations, athletic, as well as other purposes not specified, the use of the University of Louisiana abbreviation must always include the abbreviation for the municipal location of the institution. For example, ULR is appropriate for University of Louisiana at Rayne.

And you honestly think "Louisiana" doesn't violate that part? Call yourselves what you like, but UL-L is prevented from positioning itself as the flagship of the UL system which, "Louisiana" and, "UL" do. Why would y'all be so ardent about it if it didn't?

"The state policy does not govern UL alumni, supporters, other universities, and certainly not the autonomy of the press. This leaves the door open for UL Lafayette to be commonly and popularly known as LOUISIANA, while maintaining the official name." Putting LOUISIANA in big bold letters on the front of a uniform and having Lafayette in small tiny letters on the back brands yourself as LOUISIANA and follows all of those rules.

UL Football Season outlook thread

Since Teddy Bridgewater left for the NFL who is UL's starting quarterback? I think Louisville will have a solid season but will not be ranked in the top 10 at the end of the year.

I see a 9-3 record with a bowl win to finish 10-3 and ranked number 12 in the final rankings.

Why are so many people trolling about Louisville?

At the end of the day it is clear I was talking about the University of Louisiana.
