Yes, but instead of calling it smart, you talk about how boring it is.

it is boring

and due to the ring and refs refusing to stand guys who aren't doing anything, the opponent on the ground isn't able to physically do much

if you want to crown somebody for pinning another, then go ahead

when standing, there is no excuse for not pushing the pace if you're behind (unless you're stuck in a thai clench, and the same rules of wrestling apply imho)

Just curious, are you saying that Sonnen fought a boring fight against Silva?

He's saying the opposite. Had Sonnen fought like Silva or Fitch do, he would have just coasted in the 5th round and won. But he actually wanted and tried his hardest to finish that fight and because of it lost.... But SFP, you can't blame the refs because they are enforcing the rules laid out for them. It has to come from the Commisions

i'm not blaming the refs

the UFC has always been tailored to favor wrestlers

from the small ring to the cage to being allowed to use elbows on the ground (and no knees when your opponent is on the ground)

Hey Port,

Just saw where WHATDOINO was arguing with about 7 people at one time on the in-game thread of the local fight last Saturday night.

Meh, most of the wrestlers that make it to that level are only going to win if they wrestle. You have the occasional guy like Sonnen who really stays busy on top, or even Ortiz who is phenomenal when he is on top, but for the most part the wrestlers fight for position which is boring to watch, but necessary for them to win. I didn't have as much of a problem with Anderson staying back, and I especially don't know after seeing him on the ground with a wrestler on top of him. He was just avoiding being taken down at all I think.

No inside info, but i can't see them cutting arguably the #1 pfp fighter in the world. That would hurt the credibility of that entire weight class for the ufc. It would be a highly emotional, poor business move. Not in the mold of the string of decisions that got the ufc where it is today.

Sonnen fought the picture perfect fight. Kudos to him for that. I still question Silva's state of mind. I thought in his previous two fight he was somewhere between really bored and completely losing his mind. Maybe he didn't dance this time because he never got the chance, but I saw some things that make me think he still wasn't trying to destroy his opponent. I am 100% sure I saw him put his hands down and let sonnen hit him 3-4 times in the first. He is VERY slick on the ground from the bottom and barely tried anything the whole fight till the end.

I am not sure we saw what we thought we were seeing in that fight. Sounds crazy, I know.

Dan Henderson, Tito Ortiz, Randy Couture, Rampage, etc... All of those guys made way more money for the UFC than Silva, and the UFC was willing to cut all of them loose. The UFC has always preached that the fighters need them way more than they need the fighters. Cutting Silva would have been unprecedented because he is considered the best in the world, but I think that they were definitely more willing to do it than most people think

All those guys were demanding more money. Except Rampage, he retired to make a movie then un-retired. Not sure what you're referring to there.

And I think it is safe to say Chael had another 10 - 9 round going in the 5th when Silva landed the triangle. I knew it had to be a complete blowout as far as the cards were concerned.

Ed Soares talking saying Sonnen doesn't deserve a rematch.

I think he does but realistically it's going to end the same way. Sonnen hasn't finished anyone in UFC/WEC career which has lasted 8 fights. He's apparently not going to finish Silva and the longer the bout goes on the more the chance you are going to get knocked out or submitted. Even if it's by a "Happy Meal Black Belt."

Ed Soares needs to go the frick away. Has all of his fighters pretend they can't speak/understand English so he can be their one voice. He's not a trainer just a manager who leeches on all those guys.

Meh, Sonnen would win a 5 round decision if they fought again IMO.

Well that's why I think Soares is ready to that victory and run.

I can guarantee you that Silva will not be standing with his hands at his waist letting Sonnen beat him in the face next time.

Silva can do whatever he wants. SONNEN was taking him down with ease and Anderson could not get him off of him. I do not see how that is going to change regardless of what Anderson does. I give Anderson all the credit in the world for finding a way to win...... but come on man, that was very fortunate for him that he pulled that off. I don't see it happening again. Soares does not want to see his guy lose so he is trying to spin it. If I were Dana, I would throw them back in the cage together A.S.A.P.
