That is cool and all...but the last Final Four appearance was 17 years ago. They are now just another mid-major program. There is almost no way they will ever achieve anything remotely resembling their past glory. When schools started putting money into women's basketball in the 80's and 90's, Tech got passed up forever on the totem pole.

Every hire is a desperation hire when you are a mid-level program, especially at La TECH. You have to "reach" a little and hope that you hire the next up and coming coach. The mid-level college's athletic budget and alumni support just isnt the same as larger schools.

Big hit to the lady techster program

Was Tyler a McClendon hire?
Or another black eye to the previous AD made infamous by the bowl decline a few years back?

Heard about this rumor maybe half an hour ago, and the guy I was talking to said "This is the kind of thing that means you will be coaching NAIA ball for the next thirty years".
Unless you're Pat Summitt's kid. In which case, you probably have a soft landing at Tennessee as an assistant coach and sit there for 10 years until you're trusted again.

Can Tennessee honestly take that chance? Seems like every sport there is under fire about something.

I don't think they can... he needs to go into the men's game because nobody is going to send their daughter to a program with a coach who fricked his player on staff

C'mon man, slight over exaggeration here. LSU basketball fans are in no place to talk about other schools inappropriate relationships. Lol

It was really Barmore retiring more than a money thing. Same will happen to Uconn when Auriema retires. Mulkey would have kept it going if Tech would have hired her (see her success at Baylor).

Desperation might not have been the right word, but you know what I mean. TECH has a history of being cheap and letting the better coaches get away. Am I wrong?
And Im a tech fan first. Just signed up yesterday and still trying to figure all this sig stuff out.

Current salaries:
Kim Mulkey coaching women's basketball at Baylor: $1,000,000
Skip Holtz, coaching football at LA Tech: $500,000
Tyler Summitt, coaching women's basketball at LA Tech: $175,000
Now look at these numbers and tell me with a straight face that Tech could have ever kept Kim Mulkey for more than a couple of years even if they had signed her. I don't care how decorated she was there and how much of a local hero she was, they absolutely could NOT afford her.

Given that UT isn't exactly the center of the moral compass within its athletic department right now, I don't think even little Tyler gets a pass.

Do you think she stays? I was under the impression that she just came to Ruston to help tutor Summitt. I figured she would bolt.
