It’s supposedly a “gather step” but I’ve watched countless videos on these and they still don’t make sense to me.

My kid said he took 3 steps as soon as he saw and he was right

Out of all the different times they do BS reviews, that’s when you should do it. We saw that travel real time. Really sucks for CSU

And none of the commentators say a word about it

Just went to twitter to get a good look, glad II did, I thought you were saying three steps on the catch, you can do that on the run because you get to "LAND" then take one step, so if you are in full bore running and hop before you catch the ball, three steps is allowed, but this was different, he "gathers the ball" then takes threes steps after he has went under the ball (I watched in slow motion) they give you two and call it gathering the ball, but not three steps. BUT........no one is ever going to call that there, you just have to defend better. The player following him over-pursued him, the team was stacked to one side, he was always going to go back down the lane to the left, just be smart and take that drive away, giving him a turn around 2o foot shot, if he makes it you lose, but that is a 30% shot vs. a running bank shot which is a 60-65 percent shot.
Players like Bird would have never over committed there.

Defending better my arse. It was obvious that he took three steps after cradling the ball. It’s not easy when a player gets to do this. And I had the Terps in my bracket.

Yes, but you can't count on the refs, go rewatch it. He has HLEP to his left (right-side of the court) but no one us helping back down the lane, he is on the guts left shoulder as he catches the ball, he should be no worse than center of his body, but because he has help to the left, he should have his left shoulder on the players right shoulder, thus if he spins to shoot you can get a hand up, if he reverse spins to the far side, after catching it going that way its a much more difficult shot the inertia taking him that way makes it a harder shot, he cant drive because they are 3 defenders to that side. So take away the lane, its just modern modern bad coaching, and players who do not understand the game.
I stated he traveled, but they were never going to call it, hell Jordan probably traveled 40% of the time that is just modern basketball. The one thing he could not do was be to far to the left when he already had 3 players over their believe me, that was designed like that, making it look like a catch and curl drive to that side and you can thus drive or pass, BUT, there was only 3 seconds left so you have to be intelligent enough to know he can not curl, get a pass off and a shot in three seconds, take the damned lane away.

Oh, no doubt it was a great play. Very effective. BUT if that was any team playing Duke, they would have called a travel. You know and I know it.

Defend better while the other team is blatantly breaking the rules.
Got it.

It's not a travel. They broke down the rule last night. The dribble is considered still active until the moment you have full control of the ball [which typically means with 2 hands]. It was 2 steps from that moment. Not a travel, learn the rules.
