UAB will be getting one in just a couple years, suppose to seat around 32,000

and how the frick did Tulane go from almost dropping the football team to talks of building a stadium in 2 years
Maybe because those talks were in 2003 and not two years ago.

Did you even read the article that you linked?

Interesting I dont recall the talks in '08 being very serious at all.
To answer your first question though: The administration recently came out and said they will now give full support to the football program. I guess this is their way of showing it.

they've been long overdue for one
I still think Tulane should play all of its games at the Tad Pad until a new stadium is completed. Spruce up the locker rooms, bathrooms, press box (maybe) and you can play games there. The sightlines there suck but it's still better than the dome.

I'm all for it.
There are enough rich people at that school that DONT care about athletics..get them to care and then maybe we can get the funds.
There are enough funds within the alumnis and the parents..just gotta extract them

I remember playing them before 82000 in the old creaky Sugar Bowl. I wonder if they even drew half that amount if LSU wasn't playing them in the 1950's and 60's.

Where would they put it?

They had a home and home with the sips if I remember right. It really only takes one of those big name opponents each year to give a boost to attendance.
There's no chance they will be able to get a top 25 program to come to them every year. Texas visited in '02 so that shows you how difficult it is for Tulane to get a bigtime school(Ole Miss and Miss. St. aren't bigtime) to come to them.

Somewhere in this area:

that looks like enough space to put a coffee shop

You probably already know this, but that soccer field at the bottom of the picture is where the Tulane Stadium football field used to be. The Reily Rec Center is over the former site of the north end zone.

When you look at most small schools that play big time programs like LSU, TEXAS, and Florida's they don't play a home and home and they big school doesn't come to the small venue to play. The games are always at the big time programs facility. The small schools get a big pay day for going in and getting shellacked in front of 75,000 + fans, and the big schools "get to pad their schedule with a homecoming win in front of the alumni. 30,000 seats is plenty for a Tulane. If they can build a following and a successful program they can always expand later.
I would rather go to a game with 30,000 filled seats then a larger venue with 10,000+ empty seats.

You have to fact in the rich Audubon neighbors and the New bsketball/volley ball facility..
They are hard pressed for space.
There just isnt enough space on campus IMO.

They can make room for a 32,000 stadium, which would be fine. Sell that out regularily and you're paying for football.
I actually hope they do get a stadium built and hope LSU plays them and beats them more.
Tulane can get Minnesota, Indiana, Purdue, Northwestern and maybe schools like Michigan State to do a 2 for 1 deal. I think those schools would like to sell alumni packages and maybe see if it could help with recruiting since LA has so much talent.
