re: Trey Lance has less than 3000 career passing yards.

Trey Lance has limited experience but has experience in an NFL style offense, one of his strengths is viewed to be his ball control (nearly 0 INTs for his career)
I have exactly 0 ints for my entire college career, and only a few less passing attempts than Trey.

And if you were 6’4 220 pounds and could throw a football out the building you might be a top flight NFL prospect as well

Wait a second....... can he make the right choices against an NFL defense......only time will tell.

The dude threw for 150 yards a game. He wasn’t asked to do anything close to what even one of the more run oriented NFL teams will require. There are multitudes of guys that have the measurables.

It’s a lot closer to what he will be asked to do in the NFL than a 1 side read type offense most colleges run.

That should tell you how impressive his measurables and interviews went for NFL teams compared to his peers.
I have no clue if he’s gonna be good or not, but I don’t see why everyone is so flabbergasted to how he got to this point.

What did people think of russ and brady coming out of college?

But how good even good are his measurables? Fields and Lawrence are faster than him, and it’s not like he has a cannon like a Josh Allen.

6’4 220 as a 20 year old kid is pretty good no matter how you slice it
He was getting D1 offers at linebacker so they kid has a ton of athletic ability

Physically he’s on their level, might not quite have Josh Allen’s arm but he’s got a hose and has the ability to be mobile. And there’s no official time for Lance, so it’s entirely possible that he is faster than Lawrence atleast. Trevor Lawrence ran a 4.78. Lance being faster than that wouldn’t be a shock.
Where he separated himself from Fields in the scouts/teams eyes is his upside, how he was in interviews, in processing information, and the more complicated stuff he did while in school like change protections and go through progressions.
Again it remains to be seen if they are right about that, but it’s not some far fetched concept

I do know this, Bill Belichik knows what a good QB looks like and selected Jones.
Do we really know this? Other than Brady, which was pure luck and circumstance, what QB has Bill drafted or had that was an even somewhat long term starter in the league? Even Jimmy G, who had everyone on his nuts at one time, has failed. It's looking more and more as time goes that Brady, not Bill, was greatly more Paramount to the Patriots success. Not saying Bill isn't a great coach based on all the success but isn't it just as likely he's maybe, just maybe, a little overrated?

Well that’s an impossibly high bar you’ve set for a pick to be “successful” if Jimmy doesn’t count as a success

Maybe as a GM, but as a coach? No. I mean taking that roster he had last year to 7 wins might be his biggest coaching achievement to date

Here’s a radical idea that may change your life:
Two things can both be great at once

I don’t see the correlation there.
Physical skill set, not college experience. Everyone wants to find the next Mahomes style player

I think you misunderstand drastically Mahommes college career. He started 29 games and threw over 1300 times in college. If that isn’t experienced then you’re never going to be able to call any college passer experienced

And again teams have been drafting players due to their physical stature since the league was created so if that’s your only connection, then I think you need to go back way further than Mahommes for your comparison

Hell if you want to make this comment, Josh Allen makes 10000000 times more sense than Mahommes

I’m not arguing anything about experience, I have no idea what you’re talking about. I’m talking about the physical tools. Intelligent Mobile QB with a cannon.

Okay but NFL teams have been looking for that for 5 decades

What was the era where teams were saying players arms were too strong?

The move to 3 signaled clearly that Shanahan would’ve been comfortable with any of the 3 guys. It’s also a scheme fit. Everyone mentions Kirk Cousins and Matt Ryan like the best version of his offense wasn’t the pre-injury RG3 rookie year. Lots of play action with 2 guys at WR that run like RBs, the best tight end in the league, and a room full of RBs, will be one of the most fun to watch late 2021/early 2022. I think they make the switch even with a winning record late in the season if he thinks they can win it all.

Yeah I think it’s more likely he starts week 1 than it is that he doesn’t start at some point during the season

Lance has faster run speeds in games than fields or Lawrence. Lance has thrown longer air yard completions than any other QB in this class.
He has elite tools. Let’s see what Shanahan can do with it.

Recent history points to this and he’s already seen Jimmy sink under pressure in the biggest moment. Why not switch?
Slightly unrelated: I think Elijah Mitchell (UL) finds a nice home in that scheme.
