so, ultimately....this young man can't play football because his family doesn't make enough money. yeah.....seems fair

I never said anything about money. The LHSAA has their rules. I mean it sucks, but it happens all the time.

I would be more frustrated with the school. If the kid has really gone there since he was in K, can they not make an exception for the family or help them out.

I've seen schools let parents work for them to offset tuition. It just seems weird to me that they would cast a kid out suddenly like that, after 10 years. Assuming he wasn't a trouble maker or the family wasn't.

Then again, you also said that he wanted to get away from politics and a-hole kids/parents.

No, there is always grey areas, especially when dealing with private schools.

I mean, I cannot tell the school how to run their school, but it seems a bit harsh that they would kick the kid to the curb like that after 10 years.

Did the parents talk to the school.

Maybe he can make up the debt after he gets another job. Maybe they can scholarship him, maybe the parents can work off some of the debt.

Parents work for the school in different ways to offset tuition all of the time.

if they let these parents do this then they will literally have to let hundreds do this as well. there are tons that have transferred to the public school from this private school over the years. mostly, because of financial reasons.

Not if the kid has been there forever. Besides, its only recruiting if the is a complaint. Even then, nothing would likely come from it.

If the family wants to remain at the school, I would try at least talk to the administration first.

Technically no.

Technically private schools can have so many student athletes not pay tuition/assisted tuition outside of the vouchers. Its up to the schools purgative to decide what to do and how to allot them.

If you are saying 100's of kids have left do to fiances, then it sounds like a larger private school. In that case, it makes more sense, as there is less of a "family" atmosphere.

I guarantee you if they "wanted" him to stay mutually with the parents, then he would be good to go.

Sorry if I offended you are primetime, I was just trying to help shed some light. Honestly I hope everything works out for the family man.

Best of luck!

When did the rules change? DJ Banks did the exact thing listed and played immediately for West Monroe. Went to St Fred's his entire life, but lived in WM's district. Moved over after sophomore year and played immediately the last two seasons. Others have done the same moving from OCS to WM and were eligible immediately.

personally, I don't think it's fair that he has to sit out a year because his dad lost his job. doesn't seem fair to the child, imo.

Without having all of the information, I couldn't give you an honest answer.

Is West Monroe a part of Ouachita parish? I tried to google it, but it doesn't seem to be. So that can play a huge role in it.

Okay, well I broke down and called my AD.

He explained it to me. Up until next year, it depends on the parish you are in. If you parish has open enrollment or not.

In parishes that do not have open enrollment, you are always eligible at your "zoned" school.

However, he mentioned the LHSAA pushing to amend this and have universal standards across the state.

to oldcharlie, you need to check to see if your parish has open enrollment.

However, it may not matter by next year.

This was a long time ago so I don't know if anything has changed, but when I transferred from a private that was almost fifty miles away from my house to a public a few miles from home, I was eligible immediately. Not sure if transferring into my actual attendance zone made any difference. I transferred my junior year.
