what do you mean by district? are you meaning "zone" or the actual district that the teams play in?

what are the eligibility rules when a child transfers from private to public school when it comes to being eligible for football in august?
If he lives in that particular public school district he is eligible right away.
Public to private is the one year sit.

Just no.
As a matter of fact, they just made some rules making it harder to go from private to public.

RESIDENCE AND TRANSFER
If student attends a school outside of his/her "Home Attendance Zone," he/she is automatically ineligible for one year unless he/she meets the provisions of the Residence and Transfer Rule.

What grade is the kid? Is he at least a freshman?

Here is the rule straight from the book:

From the information you have provided, it seems that he will have to sit out a year. If he is at least a freshman then he established the school he attends as his home school.
Unless he "Physicaly moves" out of the parish school zone, he will have to sit out a year.
If he wants to attend a school in the same parish as the one he attends, he is going to have to sit out.

Attending private schools make things tricky. The rules can be confusing, but take it from my experience.
I once had a kid who drove 40 minutes a day to attend a private school. He attended this private school through his junior year. His parents divorced and he ended up getting pulled. His senior year, he transferred to his zoned school, literally five minutes away from his house. He was ineligible. He lost his senior year.
Both schools were in the same parish.

If you need more proof, go look on the recruiting board and find the thread about the LSU prospects thinking of transferring from Catholic High, you know a private school, to their zone school, you know Mckinnley High, and how they would have to sit out, you guessed it, a fricking year!

all of these rules begin with "if a student transfers outside attendance zone". this student is staying inside the attendance zone. bot schools are inside the same zone.

it's simple:
schools are 1 fricking mile apart
one's private
one's public
wants to go from private to public and play football this year.
lives 2 miles from both schools.

He is going to have to sit a year. There is really no way around it for your family it seems.
I have been coaching in Louisiana for many years. I deal with eligibility issues regarding grades and transferring regularly. Several posters have backed up what I have told you. A few posters have said something different.
The easiest solution would be to contact the AD from the school you plan on transferring to and ask them.
I think you already know the answer, it just seems to me that you were hoping to find a loophole. Although there are plenty, I cannot think of any in this instance.

so, ultimately....this young man can't play football because his family doesn't make enough money. yeah.....seems fair.

I don't know why you are getting hostile with me. I've answered the question respectfully several times, I just don't think you like the answer.
The answer is he will not be able to. When as a Freshman, you start the year at a private school you establish that as your first choice/home school. Therefore if he transfers to any other school without moving out of the parish, he is ineligible.

i'm not trying to be a dick to you, man.
personally, I don't think it's fair that he has to sit out a year because his dad lost his job. doesn't seem fair to the child, imo.
