Our team changes every damn year. Stanton will be gone soon enough with the rest of them
I agree that he'll be gone soon enough.
I have the Marlins Park Opening Night roster t-shirt from this year and now the majority of the players on that shirt are gone.

Wow. Marlins have got to be one of the weirdest organizations in all of sports. They never know if they want to compete or shed money. I wonder how the blue jays felt when the marlins asked them about this, just like oh yeah we'll take basically everyone worth a shite on your team beside Stanton

I have been a big time Marlins fan my entire life ( my family owns season tickets) And this trade hurts to no end. Its like the marlins are just giving up on what was supposed to be something great. I understand they massively under performed this past season, but i would put that more on the coaching staff because the players obviously had talent. I feel betrayed by the marlins and its going to be hard to watch next season.

i've been a marlins fan my entire life and well the shite just hit the fan. this is worse than the fire sell after both world series

The fans forced managements hands on this. They signed all these guys last offseason with the expectations the fans would show up in droves to see them and the fancy new ballpark. The fans didn't show up so the money didn't roll in and they couldn't afford to pay these guys. They did what they had to do.

Trade is actually not that terrible by itself. Fish dumped $168M in salary and in a few years, the players they acquired may actually be worth more wins than the ones they gave up. They got a legit potential 5 tool hitter and top of the rotation pitcher. Reyes is a good player, but hasn't played a full season in forever and has not been consistant. Johnson is a legit ace when healthy, but Buerhle will just be an innings eater at best in the Jay's ballpark in the AL East.
I really do not think the 12 player swap between the two is really that favorable for the Jays. Certainly for next year it is, but it may not be for long. Add in the massive salary dump and the Fish may have actually gotten the better end of it.
Of course the problem is the fire sale, salary dump happening right after public funds largely built the new stadium. Fans and taxpayers are PTFO now and want Lorio gone yesterday. Marlins just locked down last place and possibly the worst attendence in MLB next year.

I live in S. Florida and can tell you this is a big reason the fans will not get emotionally invested in the Marlins. If they have a great team and make the playoffs...... OK, we will start watching them and get behind them. Otherwise frick that fire sale MFer Loria.

Personally, I will still go to several games next year, but it is because I do like the stadium, getting tickets in the clevelander and eating and having a few drinks there. The baseball part is certainly secondary in that stadium which is fine with me, I'll go and pay if I have fun while I'm there. Of course if attendance really bottoms out, even that won't be any fun.
And FTR, I am a Braves fan. When I lived in Atl, I went to the Braves games for the game and to pull for my favorite players. I went to playoff and regular season games every year. The Fish make that impossible with their constant fire sales. They make it impossible to reallly care.

Not really......
1. Reyes- legit start but health issues
2. Lawrie- is he going to make jump or look like last year
3. Bautista- MVP candidate
4. Encarnacion- did light bulb finally go off last year or was it a 1 year wonder
5.Lind- still can't hit probably will be trade
6.Rasmus- avg power, low avg hitter
7.Johnson- you talking Kelly?
8.Buck- some power no avg, think Russell Martin Yankees last year
9.Bonaficio- speed guy and that is all he gives you

I'd say anyone in the South that is over 30 was probably a Braves fan at one point..... They were the only team anywhere near us. lol. So, yeah I was a Braves fan till I moved down here myself. I got caught up in the Marlins when they won the Series back in 04. I knew they did the fire sale in 97 after winning the series, so when they did it again I knew I would never really care about them. They are not serious about building a fan base. So they deserve the awful crowds they get. I do want to go see the new stadium though, heard it was really nice.

Stadium is cool and super nice. They do a good job of providing entertainment throughout the game and the Clevelander is a fun bar scene within a baseball game with good food and overpriced drinks. Overall, the stadium experience is a good one and easily worth the now relatively cheap ticket prices. And you can park in someone's yard and be perfectly safe and not blocked in for about $10 a few blocks from the park. For me, it is on the way home from work and for $50 bucks, I can get a ticket, park, eat and have a drink or two which is pretty cheap for a night of entertainment in south florida.
The problem will be when the crowds get so sparce that the game experience is just boring. Last year, even though the Fish sucked, there was still excitement in the building in the late innings of close games. This coming year I think may be a disaster. I'll go to some games early, but if attendance is like 10k like it was at Sun Life, I think the Fish are really gonna be in trouble.

I wish MLB would force Loria to sell to someone that gives a shite about their product
Posted on 11/14/12 at 9:45 am to Palm Beach Tiger
Me too. Jackass is a disgrace. The team could be extremely successful. There really is a good size contigent of MLB fans down here in south florida with nothing to get attached to. I am still attached to the braves and follow them every year and try to make sure to see them (the Braves) whenever they are in town.

It doesn’t sound like it was formal, and it seems like it was something far short of an offer, but Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Toronto Blue Jays contacted Bobby Cox about their managerial opening: The 71-year-old is probably a longshot to be the Blue Jays’ next manager.
