What is the college rule? Anyone know?
Seeing that Ohio State WR catch vs Bama, the ball hits the ground and he didn't control it through the ground, would be 100% incomplete in pros but no idea if same rule applies in college.

IIRC, the college rule is basically one of ref discretion. It's a catch if the ref says it is. The rulings are too inconsistent for me to believe there is a well defined rule about how much one must possess the ball to be considered a catch.
For instance, every week there is a player who toe taps and then the ball moves as falls OOB but it's often called a catch. That is never a catch in the NFL.

During the game I thought it was incomplete. Watching the replays, Dez is such a freak he caught it and was making a move to the goaline. That was a catch. More impressive after watching it again.

Merrill Hodge made a good point, the NFL is essentially penalizing Dez for being an athletic freak. There aren't three guys in the league who could have made that play, let alone have the coordination to reach for the end zone in the same motion.

The problem is you still think he was lunging for the end zone. He wasn't.

Been a while since we have agreed, but I agree. That is a "normal" receiver falling to the ground. That isn't what happened. I have no dog in this, but that is a shame.

Well I have functional retinas and live in reality, so I just can't help it.

He first lands 2 feet behind the defender and ends up 3 feet past him.
He definitely tried for the goalline.

Nah man, that's how large black men fall. You wouldn't understand.

The ball did not extend past his helmet. That's not a reach, it's trying to cushion the blow.
They determined he had no control of his body on the "lunge", therefore he needed to maintain possession throughout.

But he was stumbling, not in control. Needed to maintain throughout.

This ref dude on ESPN is saying h never had control of the ball

Two things, he was stumbling until he made a football move to the endzone.
He maintained control until it hit the ground.
The refs report read as they did not believe he made a football move, which is their opinion. When the ball hit the ground they counted that as not maintaining control. I agree with that.
Now if he made a football move with control, such as lunging with the ball in control, then it isn't and incompletion. It instead a fumble.
My contention is that he made a football move with possession and the ground caused the fumble. Which means it is down at the 1 yardline.
Not that any of it matters. The NFL will defend its refs and give a halfass apology like last week when they fricked Detroit.

Yeah I have no clue what he is seeing. Even most saying it wasn't a catch aren't trying to argue he didn't have possession PRIOR to hitting the ground. He clearly caught it with both hands, moved it over into his left arm and extended it all without the ball moving loose at all.
