FIFY.

I know we all have an emotional attachment to it, I get that. But it's still a dome, and hardly discernable from all other domes to the non-Louisiana eyes

I seriously doubt it. I'd be surprised if 30% could recognize it from a photo and tell you where it's located.

Yeah, but 20% could recognize anything else.

Possibly. I think some of this is a serious case of region-centric thinking.

Where I live has an iconic glacier. It's been on Nat Geo, Discovery, etc. Over 1,000,000 people come to see it every year. It's probably the most famous glacier in N. America.

Living here you'd think the whole world knows about this glacier watching thousands of people a day pile off cruise ships to see it. In reality, I doubt 5% of the US population has ever heard of it.

Folks who live in NOLA probably have an exaggerated sense of the significance of the Superdome.

no doubt, but that glacier (which I know of) wasn't a part of one of the biggest disasters in US history and the biggest TV events ever

--shite, 5 years after the fact you couldn't watch a Nola sporting event without hearing about it. It was brought up way too much during this year's super bowl, especially with the power outage.

Visual recognition =/= Historical significance/prominent event hostings/cultural ties/etc.

The superdome is an amazing place for many reasons, but it's just not all that recognizable IMO.

Not many stadiums are for many people that are not in a certain region.

People in Ohio recognize the horseshoe, but few people for LA would.

But how recognizable the Superdome isn't the point... the point is comparative to other stadiums. I can only think of a handful that might be more recognizable, even if none of them are all that recognizable to the average person.

Fenway, Wrigly, LA Coliseum... not a long list.

I don't get why that's so skewed.

Why would people be google searching that, so much more (30-100 times more????) than any other stadium or arena?

MSG probably hosts a prominent event 4-5 times a week in a city of 19 million in the metro area.

Knicks, Islanders, Rangers all play there I think right?

I know I've googled Madison Square Garden a bunch this year already. Pretty sure I haven't googled the Dome. I was going to MSG for an event and needed info though. MSG is very disappoint from the outside, but the inside is pretty neat with all the history.

Superdome probably #1 most recognizable. Hard to argue that.

Then Wrigley
Then Fenway
Then maybe Jerry World

Simple fact is most people only recognize stadiums by the teams that play in them. From the outside, they are all fairly generic looking.

The Superdome is one of the few truly unique looking stadiums and has hosted mutiple Superbowls and final 4's.

While NO may be a shite city in a shite state, the Dome is probably the most recognizable stadium in the country to casual sports fans and non sports fans.

Hell, I watch sports daily and if you just showed a random pic of a stadium with no logos, I wouldn't know 80% of them.
