Well guys, objectively I can't put my beloved Dirk in my top five... he's either 6 or 7.

Some of you have really retarded lists

and where the frick is my boy Tim Duncan? Does anyone watch basketball?

1. Lebron James
2. Dwayne Wade
3. Kobe Bryant
4. Chris Paul
5. Tim Duncan

From a standpoint of winning championships, I'd take Duncan on my team (even at 32) over Dwight Howard. basketball IQ/skill > athleticism.

One more note on Howard, I know you idiots have a hardon for athleticism and Sportscenter highlight reel plays, but that guy ALWAYS seems to get owned head to head v opposing big men.

Duncan, Yao, and even Gasol... + Bynum, always win the individual battles.

Another thing, as I've said before, HE HAS NO POST GAME SKILL ALL OF HIS POINTS COME OFF ATHLETICISM.

Why does that matter if they can each get the same amount of points each night?

It's the reason he generally gets outplayed by the aformentioned big men... which is why I'd take Duncan over Howard.

Don't tell me it's irrational to put Duncan over Howard. DON'T!

I'd rank Howard as the 7th best player in the game based on that athleticism alone... if he can develop a complimentary post game he can enter the top 5.

Look guys, if I'm trying to knock up a cheerleader or make Sportscenter, I'll take Dwight Howard over Dirk Nowitzki.

But if I'm in the final minute of a game, where basketball intelligence, clutch shooting, FT shooting, and reading defenses becomes more relevant than athleticism and knocking up cheerleaders, I'll take Dirk motherfrickin Nowitzki over Dwight Howard 10/10 times.

It should say something about Dwight Howard's cheerleader knocking/unclutch ways when hedo fricking Turkoglu is the guy they want taking the final shot.

After seeing a few guy put Kobe over Lebron, I can't read this thread. Lebron is only averaging more points, rebounds, and assists that Kobe. And he's shooting better from both the field and behind the arc. Other than that, yeah, Kobe's better.

Right now, I think Lebron and D-Wade have separated themselves a bit. With CP3 and Kobe right behind.

I never said its irrational to rank Duncan ahead of him.

However, you have a horrible point when you said that Duncan is better because he has better post moves.

If Howard avgs the same amount of points by dunking, etc, then you really don't have a point. They are both effective in their own way.

Shaq never had the polished post game that Duncan had and he is one of the best big men ever to play.

The object of the game is to score buckets. If you are effective kicking the ball into the goal at %55, then that is what you are going to do. It doesn't mean you arent a good scorer though.

Kobe has much better supporting talent. If we are going by numbers alone, KG wouldn't even be a top 20 player.

I think MJ, the Big O, and Bill Russell are guys that are just hard to ever pass. I think Kobe could be greater than Bird or Magic, though.

Currently:

1. Bron
2. Kobe
3. Howard
4. Paul
5. Wade

2 games vs LA: 18 pts 10 REBS %50FG

2 games vs HOU: 18 pts 10boards 70%FG

really bad games

Then Lebron should not be averaging 2 more assists than him a game, no?

Carl, they have different roles on their respective teams. I think most who have watched the Lakers and Cavs over the last two years can tell that the Lakers are one of the more consistent teams when it comes to running an offense, whereas most of what the Cavs do comes from LeBron taking the ball and facilitating. It's two different situations. LeBron is a better passer, but if Kobe was in Cleveland I'm sure his points and assists would be up as well.

I agree to an extent. But I also think that Kobe is past his prime. He's logged a lot of NBA minutes, despite his age. He was the best player in the NBA for a several years. I just don't think he is anymore. He's still one of the best in the league and one of the best of all time.

top 5 players:

1. Kobe (reigning MVP)
2. LeBron (could be #1 by the end of the year)
3. Wade (has worst supporting cast of top 5 players)
4. Paul (Will play at a higher level than Nash did for his two MVP years but will average that for over 10 years)
6. Howard (Physical freak with need of a true PG to explode into an NBA champion)

hits the nail on the friggin head imo

even as a big spurs fan i'll say that duncan has had the perfect team to win those with not to mention having the best coach in the nba

the other players have not had that although kobe is damn near close to that assessment as well (however kobe could hold is own better with a no-show team and coach but it's hard to compare kobe with duncan)

He is definitely on the tail end. He'll stay consistently at the top of the league for a 3-5 more years if he has the role he plays now, which is quarters 1-3.
