#16 in total offense in 2009.

LSU fans forget about this because we crushed Auburn in 2009.

FWIW, they were #7 in total offense in 2010.

eta. They were #104 in total offense in 2008 before he got there. The guy knows how to move the football.

Will never work in the SEC

If you had an 18 year old son who was thought to be a NFL caliber QB, where would you send him?

He always worked with what he had. He had Brohm and not much of a RB selection at Louisville.

The guy can coach. As far as discipline, that's another story. The Louisville teams he had isn't much of a secret anymore. But then again, he may have just recruited what he could to Louisville to make a step up. Louisville isn't exactly college football central.

1. Petrino. completely balanced, pro-style offense. he coaches up QBs on the back of a big-time running game.

2. Dana Holgerson. Mixes the spread and spread option in an amazing fashion. he's like a more mature version of mike leach (on the field, at least)

3. Chip Kelly. kind of a 2-3 trick pony, but when he's in the zone, nobody's stopping him. prone to change his gameplan and get away from his bread and butter, which puts his team in a hole often

4. Bryan Harsin. like an upper-middle class man's bobby petrino. pro-style offense with lots of looks/motion. based around a running game and lots of play action.

5. Gus Malzhan. let's see how his offense responds without the best player in CFB. a major fall pushes him off the list

Move Malzhan up to number one and shift everyone else down a slot. Remove Harsin and put Dan Mullens in his place.

Doubtful. You have to remember a coach can only be as successful as what type of players he has. The QB selection at Auburn isn't great right now. As far as I know. Hell, one can blow up. Mosely broke records in Alabama. I like how Malzahn changes his offense to what he has available though. He was a pass happy offense in HS. Changed to the run at Arky and then what he did with Cam. What will the QB's at Auburn allow him to do now?

As much as I hate to say it, I think Malzahn is the next coach that takes off, ala Chip Kelly.

Kelly was a fricking New Hampshire 2 years before he was hired at Oregon. He was breaking records with Santos at UNH. Santos was a 3rd string QB before he took over and Kelly still turned him into the Walter Payton award winner.

Touche.

I guess I was thinking of his last year when Brohm threw for what? 3900? 4000?

I have been very aware of that. So how do they get nearly 400 yards of total offense off almost every week but couldn't get 200 yards of offense on us back then? Our defense could not have been much better than the other teams at that time.

how did LSU 2006 fail against AU?

shite happens, esp in rivalry games (and esp when the offense is on the road)

Before Malzahn came to AU, we were worse than LSU on offense. We were in the 100's. After his first season, we were 16th and then even better this past season. A drop this year will occur due to a young offensive line and a fill in at QB from a guy that probably won't start next year.

I think 4 of his RBs at Louisville got drafted. but yeah, he can change some things up to maximize his personnel.
