Well, we could talk about the depth of all these tour players now and how the US does in the Ryder Cup compared to then.

Mighty big prediction
I don't say it because no athlete will ever have the accolades or ability, but because sports have transcended too much over the last 25 years. Their is no forum in sports that provides the opportunity Tiger had with golf. Unless someone comes out of nowhere and puts curling, lacrosse, or water polo on the map, it's just not possible any more.

Golf, like all sports, will keep producing better athletes. In 40 years the training and sciences will be more advanced and the fields will be deeper then than they are now. It really is dumb to compare the athletes from 30-40 years ago because most couldn't compete with today's guys. And the same will be true in the future.

doubtful anyone will have a better swing than sam snead, or a more repetitive swing than ben hogan, no matter how great an athlete they are ... and snead was very athletic ... nicklaus played all sports in hs and was named honorable mention all state point guard in ohio his sr year ... he was a very good athlete who probably could've played at some college level (not claiming D I here ) in all 3 big sports ...

It is much harder for a 19 year old kid to win the US am than it is for a tour professional to win the US Open.

That is like saying that it is harder to win the Heisman Trophy than it is to win league MVP in the NFL.

We will just have to disagree .... But let me ask you this - How many future PGA Tour pros do you think compete in an US AM?

You could argue he was the most dominant athlete is the history of sports.

It was a great period he had. Pedro Martinez was just as dominant in about the same time period.

You're a fricking moron if you think that I don't respect Woods as a golfer and for his accomplishments. I'm just not going to diminish Nicklaus because A) I never saw him and B) all of these supposed HOF golfers Woods is playing against today.

the fields at the british open in the 60's were terrible. go look it up. if you think it was more difficult to win the british in 1966 than it is today, you are beyond help.

Not trying to be a dick, but didn't Francis Ouimet win the open as an amateur?

Thanks dick!

ETA: I am not saying that an argument can not be made for Tiger being GOAT. Hell I think Johnny Miller is even in that discussion. But this Tequila guy has zero clue to what he is saying.

Meh, I mean in match play in the US Am you can have a bad round and still advance .. If you have a bad round in the US Open you are not going to win.

You can also have a good round and get your arse beat. You could also have less strokes in the round and still lose.

A golf swing is a golf swing. The equipment has advanced far more than the technique.

No it's not. Technique has gotten much better especially for junior players. More good junior players = more good college players= more good pros.

i'd say half of the top 20 in the world don't have "good technique" ...

Nicklaus was booming 300 yd drives with a persimmon head driver back in the 60s & 70s.

Ben Hogan was a fairly small guy but he was one of the longer hitters back in his day.

So in your theory is it more impressive to win the Puerto Rico open or the US am?

OK, in an effort of compromise, I will give you this point. NOW try to defend the other idiotic things that you said

Maybe. Like I have said I didn't see Jacks career. Did you? I am just trying to be objective here. And there are an argument for both sides.
