Thoughts on Verne Lundquist

Never been a Verne basher, but I felt compelled to evaluate what I see has a sharp decline in the old man's ability to call a game correctly. HIs voice is still very good and I have never been bothered by his style. he generally doesn't pull for one team or the other but gets excited appropriately for big plays. He clearly has issues now processing information as it happens and it is effecting the chemistry with Danielson.
he is also bringing up stuff that has no bearing on the game or has been repeated so often on every broadcast that it takes away from the game. Verne had 27 mistakes by my count on the re-watch of the broadcast. Danielson's frustration also came through a couple of times because of it.
I think its time to put this man out to pasture from major broadcasts. He was great for a long time but he can't keep up anymore. I like him but its time to go

would love to see Ian Eagle or another established (non-ego driven) PbP man take that spot. Danielson would be much better with someone who knows how to set him up and think along with him.

Danielson isn't all that good either, though. but maybe he would get better with a better PbP guy.

He is an abomination.

he always interrupts Gary to spew some incorrect bullshite. Gary is usually spot on, so yea, he gets frustrated when he's interrupted so Verne can shout something completely wrong

Gary did seem to get a little irritated a few times with him Saturday.
I would imagine Verne also ticked off the producer for guffawing loudly when they put 1st and 99 on the screen

The broadcast is supposed to be the prime match-up of what is right now, the best conference in the country. CBS is the big boy and its broadcast should reflect that. Verne has had an admirable career but he screws things up more often than not. Its time to replace him with someone on top of his game.
