Could you imagine an SEC school snagging a top NFL coordinator for their coach, and the alumni crying that they'd prefer a crappier coach from within their school's ranks?

I think they would have been fine with a slam-dunk, non-alum. Mostly they're pissed with the secrecy. Regardless... who cares?

You mean like having a national championship coach and not being happy with him?

I don't think it's straight up arrogance on PSU's part - I think it's trepidation over change. This is their 2nd HC in 50 years...a HC who built a certain environment. It's a unique situation, you can't compare it to anything else. Let it slide.

They don't get it. They want a "Penn State guy".

Two problems with that:

1) That's the last thing they need. They need to blow that place up and start over.
2) Do they not realize that Paterno was not a "Penn State guy"? He went to Brown.

But I can't let it slide. The whole thing just reeks of a cult, and I do not say that lightly.

State College was/remains a full blown cult of personality centered around JoePa. I honestly think nowhere else is even close to being similar

It's not so much that it was a "non-Penn State" guy. They thought they could land a bigger name coach if they had to go outside of "the family".

They were throwing out names like Les Miles, Urban Meyer and Jon Gruden. Delusional.

I don't know what all the alumni/boosters are whining about.Do they really want to hire a "family member" that might have to testify what he knew about their little safe house for monsters?

ETA: I agree with your point though. They are joined at the hip with Joe Pa.

This reminds me so much of the Rich Rod situation at Michigan that it isn't funny.
