18 Seasons of being a non-factor in the NBA picture

Hey, when are the Pelicans going to get some of these?

Or maybe some of these

Or maybe just at least 1 of these?

Surely at least one of these, right?

Maybe a couple times in the playoffs?

How does that compare with the rest of the NBA over the past 20 years?

I'm not sure that either missing the playoffs or being bounced in the first round in 15 out of 18 seasons is something to hang your hat on, but by all means.

I wouldn't either if I was a pelicans fan. Chris Paul didn't even want to stay, Anthony Davis is next.rockets attract stars, they don't beg to keep them.

As I have posted in this thread before, I'm not a Pelicans fan. Sorry.

There has been only 8 different teams win championships over the past 20 years.

5 of those 8 have won more than 1.

Lakers: 5
Spurs: 4
Bulls: 3
Heat: 3
Rockets: 2
Celtics: 1
Pistons: 1
Mavericks: 1

Not many teams have accomplished what the Rockets have over the past 20 years.

I notice you aren't a hard facts guy. You seem to enjoy ambiguous statements far more. Might as well say we all have a different perspective and opinion and leave it at that. Especially if you won't consider hard data.

Missing the playoffs altogether or losing in the 1st round 15 out of 18 years isn't "hard data"? What else would you call it.

By any objective performance measure, the Rockets haven't been a factor in the NBA since their second title. They couldn't even win their own division.

And I said compare that to the rest of the Nba. You give some numbers but you have no idea if that's good or bad because you have no idea what the standard is. You probably haven't looked up those same stats for any other teams, therefore by what standard are they being judged?

...for what? To appease you?...the guy who started this thread crying over an ESPN article?

This isn't difficult. Here is the standard:

-if you don't make the playoffs, you are anywhere from 9th-dead last in your conference.

-if you don't make it out of the 1st round you typically fall anywhere between 9th-16th in the NBA

I don't need to spend my afternoon gathering data to know that falling into one of the above criteria in 15 out of 18 seasons makes your franchise an afterthought...that's ignoring 0 Finals appearances and 0 division titles over that same period.

If you want to hang your hat on the fact I said two decades, when I really meant 18 (going on 19) seasons...so be it. Doesn't change the fact if you are any younger than 25 you aren't even old enough to remember the titles you are fluffing.

...and just so you don't get confused, by "25" I could mean 23 or 24 too.

They were in the Western Conference Finals in 1997.

In 2009 they lost in the Conference Semi's, and took the eventual champion Lakers to 7 games in a hard-fought series without Yao or McGrady.

But even ignoring your errors... what does that have to do with this year?

No, to give yourself a legit argument instead of just making ambiguous claims that have no credibility. I can just point and label things good or bad as well. Does it mean if I point to something and call it "good" or "bad" that the thing is actually what I label it? Absolutely not. So what you're saying is completely useless and you just keep trying to ram it home. We get it, you think you're right, but on a board where different perspectives meet how can we compare our different perspectives? Hopefully numbers can create that medium of comparison, but apparently you only care about what you and you alone think and don't care at all to make your claim proven through numbers or any impartial measure. So maybe just keep your opinions to yourself if you don't care for others understanding them.

Stop traffic...a conference finals appearance seventeen seasons ago.

I take what you consider "legit" with a grain of salt considering your OP. That overview by Zach Lowe of the Rockets was on-point and I could taste your tears all the way in Austin.

In the end...if you don't understand wins/losses, playoff positioning, etc. are data points...I don't know what to tell you. I simply provided a summary as to what the Rockets have done over the past 18 seasons...it wasn't my opinion and you have yet to refute it in any meaningful way.

I'll keep posting...kthx

Let's bury the hatchet...in a few months I can help you fill this out, if you would like...I understand as a Rockets fan you don't have a lot of experience as to what happens after the first round:
