That'll happen again.

I think we'll never see ANYONE break Cal Ripken Jr.'s ironman record.

Looking back, I realize how fortunate I was to be in the stands for the one game when Bo and Herschel played each other.

With the influx of European players, you can't really say that.

What if Charlie Ward had had a few better players at FSU?

Some of you are being very loose with the word "never"

Charlie Ward was at the end of an era where guys routinely played multiple sports both in high school and college. These days, if a guy is good enough to win the Heisman at a high profile school, there is no way that the football coach is going to allow him to risk injury by playing hoops.

False. Coaches these days at top programs are on the hotseat for going 8-4. You lose your Heisman candidate QB because he got injured playing hoops will get you fired. Plus, your hoops playing QB (for example) has to choose basketball over spring practice or vice versa.

The catch phrase of this current generation of sports is "specialization". We've been seeing, and will continue to see, the decline of the multisport athlete on campus.

Well, I'm not so sure this is impossible. Donovan McNabb and Julius Peppers are examples of relatively recent football stars who played basketball at prominent programs.

That you had to go 12 and 8 years back to find two outliers proves my point.

In the last 5 years, for example, how many guys can you name who were top football players who also played hoops at top hoops schools. Not many.
