Bill Simmons loves Bill Simmons more than anyone else loves Bill Simmons. He's a slightly less annoying Darren Rovell.

But House, Zoey Simmons, and Nephew Kyle didn't get there because of talent. Also probably not the reason Tic Tok and Melatonin got the intro to The Book of Basketball pods.

The whole first segment on Sundays pod With Ryen makes sense now. They were talking about how hard it is to be good at radio/podcast

The outlet’s popular Rewatchables podcast, in which staff members revisit old movies, led by Mr. Simmons, allowed for a variety of guests when it started. By the spring of 2018, the ensemble approach faded as the show came to rely more on Mr. Simmons along with Sean Fennessey and Chris Ryan, both founding editors who are white. “The Rewatchables was pitched as, ‘Let’s get the rest of you participating in podcasts,’” Mr. Collins said. “It very quickly became Sean, Bill and Chris.”

quote:

Mr. Simmons said by email that the company needed to spotlight its best podcasters. “It’s a business,” he said. “This isn’t Open Mic Night.” The spokesman said the company was creating new opportunities for young staffers.

Some staff members said they were taken aback when a white editor was chosen as the sole anchor for a podcast on “Atlanta,” the FX series centered on a rapper and his cousin, played by Donald Glover.

Mr. Simmons said in the email interview that the editor got the show because she had conceived it and had podcasting experience. “We don’t want to put people in a position to fail,” he said. Black employees have appeared as commentators on every episode of that show and have hosted podcasts of their own.

The Ringer union has proposed that half the candidates for open positions come from underrepresented groups, like black people and those who identify as LGBTQ. The two sides are scheduled to discuss the issue again at a bargaining session this week

And yet he gave his daughter a podcast.

The Rewatchables started with Simmons and Ryan doing an ode to Heat

They also offer up tons of female/SJW bait on that podcast

I imagine the numbers on those episodes suck hard

I was one of the original "Simmons is stale" guys on here way back pre-Grantland, but he does churn out some good content. Rewatchables is a great movie podcast (that typically sucks when they veer off where these people want it so). the recent Redraftables via his Book of Basketball 2.0 is another great idea and good content.

hell, they've ruined their Wire podcast by making it purely SJW/race-based

I mean, that's cornering a potential market that nobody else at that place can touch. It's not like she's competing in the same content areas.

Regardless, you can't bitch about it not being "open mic night" when you gave your daughter a platform on there. Hell, his daughter is 15. she was 14 when he was pimping her out on his podcast and giving her a chance to start her career and promote herself. No way does she have that opportunity without her dad gifting it to her. She wasn't qualified other than she's a kid, his kid, so she must be cool and up to date on what's cool.

Conclusion - he's being a hypocrite.

He gave his 14 year old daughter a job and yet he bitches about it not being open mic night?

Hypocrite.

I get what you are saying, but I'm sure its recorded in his house and edited by Nephew Kyle. His either letting her do it because she wants to, or he's trying to get into a market early.

Everyone is a hypocrite in some way, but if the worst he does is publish a podcast made by his unpaid daighter edited by his nephew then meh.

Who fricking cares, it's his business. He made an exception for his daughter. If they don't like it, they can suck a dick and start their own platform

ETA: to propose that half of the candidates for open positions be granted to a group that represents ~20% of the population (at best), is absurd.

This part of the argument has nothing to do with calling him out for saying he can’t have open mic night on his pods, when he clearly can

Literally was thinking about this yesterday with his boy Kimmel getting thrown into the fire. Would be hilarious for him all the guys he hired to come at him. Let’s not forget he’s from the most racist city in the country.
