They came for Bill Simmons

His draft diary takes were high comedy in the 2000s and okay at the time. Ironically he’s talked about how he could never make those jokes today during his “Redraftables” series.
Might as well start cancelling anyone who used a homophobic or misogynist comment. Cast of Entourage screwed. Charles Barkley is fricked

Entourage cast screwed? Out of what work exactly?

Don’t you come for Ari Gold. Although Johnny Drama would have a great story about getting caught up at BLM riot.

Who did ? And when? Link?
The lib blogs/podcasts like Deadspin & Lebatard have been after him for 15 years bc they didn’t think he was smart enough.
The voices on the opposite spectrum like WEEI & Cowherd also been after him bc they thought he was to pro-player.
ETA
I do know that he wrote an article that was published by ESPN titled “Roger Clemens is the anti-Christ” and I don’t think they’ve ever had a funnier story.

I’m assuming you’re talking about the NYT piece, which has nothing to do with anything you’ve mentioned here

The anonymous ringer sources sound like petulant children

Simmons staffed the ringer almost exclusively with coastal SJW’s under 35.
Don’t get me wrong in general I like a lot of the ringer’s content but that’s who works there. And in 2020 an old straight successful white man with a bit of an a-hole streak in the midst of coastal SJW’s....he led the lions to his own slaughter

With grantland he had the allure of ESPN exposure to use in hiring
A lot of those people went on to bigger things
The Ringer podcasts and writing have suffered because he has tried to skew younger but they just aren’t as good
The women lead by Mallory nervously laughing at everything is an awful listening experience

Yeah I think overall the complaints are pretty silly, although I’m not in the office to really know what it’s like there to be fair.
I will say it’s a bad look for Simmons to respond “we can’t have it be open mic night” on his podcast when he gave his underage daughter a couple podcasts and also has his nephew just constantly not doing his job as the producer of the ringers two biggest podcasts
It never works being the “cool boss”. You’d think Simmons would know that.
ETA this will certainly lead to more random hosts for the rewatchables, which sucks because usually those episodes suck pretty hard

Simmons whole schtick was that it was him and his friends though. That was what made him famous.
Like people on twitter were complaining about Simmons giving House stuff to do instead of a minority. Just shows how out of touch people are.
No one at the ringer is shite without Simmons. Simmons isn’t Simmons with House, cousin Sal, JackO etc. That’s like Barstool people complaining that Portnoy is obnoxious.

House is pretty bad tho.

Ironically, Dan Lebatard is the national media talent who has the most likely chance of getting got for old stuff. Not BLM stuff but #metoo.
He and his cohorts had more than a few questionable segments on radio/podcast that would not be allowed on his national show today.

But House and Simmons are part and parcel. It’d be one thing if Simmons was the head of talent at ESPN and showed nepotism and favoritism in his hiring.
But the Ringer is all him. Grantland is all him. Love him or hate him, and by no means is Simmons free of faults, House is an integral part of the Simmons package. People are acting like Simmons is the CEO of GE instead of basically running Bill Simmons, Inc.

I don’t feel like they do much podcasts together anymore tbh.
Simmons can do what he wants, I’m just sayin house sucks

No he isn’t. House replaced Jack-O, and House could easily be replaced too. Simmons leaned on Jalen Rose more than he did House his last 2 years at ESPN.
Cousin Sal & guess the lines is the biggest Jenga piece of the Bill Simmons package.

Yeah Russillo has taken some of the weight off cousin sals shoulders, atleast during non-NFL season. That’s why he’s been doing so many pods with Russilo lately and during all this
I’d say there’s a decent chunk of his listeners that don’t really listen unless one of those two are involved.

Remember when hiring someone: skin color is more important than talent

Can someone give me Cliffs on what this twerps at The Ringer said about Simmons.
Even a few weeks or so ago, I was a pretty regular fan of a couple podcasts, but never listened to anything without either Simmons or Rusillo on the panel. Now I've yotally stopped following the podcasts network.
The staff there is basically the definition of the term "soy boys."
I'd fire almost everyone there if a bunch of ppl annonmoysly said stuff to a publication.
Clay Travis has really amped up his website and sports coverage recently with a lot of seemingly conservative or non lunatic left voices. If he started a couple movie podcasts and somehow lured Rusillo, he could really really hurt The Ringer.
