Shocked and saddened at the news of cycling commentator Paul Sherwen’s very sudden passing. Paul was such a class gentleman. And superb at his craft. I’ve enjoyed and admired his work for decades and will truly miss him. Condolences to his family and loved ones.
Anyone who's ever watch the Tour de France knows Sherwen's voice

Pretty tragic stuff. July’s won’t be the same without him

Comment said he passed in his sleep.

I was shocked when I just saw this news on Velonews. I've wondered in recent years when his partner Phil might retire, but I never imagined this.
Longtime commentator, ex-pro Sherwen dies at 62
It says he "passed away this morning at his home in Uganda." I did not know he lived there. The article adds:

A British native, he had strong roots to Africa. He spent part of his childhood in Africa when his father had a job in Uganda, and he later lived in Uganda for most of his adult life. He was once part owner of a gold mine and often promoted African cycling and tourism among friends and colleagues.

He was great at his job. I never even learned to ride a bike but he always explained what was happening during the stage so someone like me could understand it.

If you have watched NBC's broadcast of the TDF then you will instantly recognize his voice

RIP to one of the greats. The TDF is the one event that is a history lesson on itself every year, due in large part to Paul and Phil.

Quite so. What a loss, I am truly sad about this. Watching the same sporting event for three weeks straight, the anniuncers and commentators seem to be close to you.

As somebody who is not a Cyclist, this is/was my favorite part of the TDF every year and part of why I make an effort to watch it every summer.

Paul became very rambling these last few years but he was knowledgeable and he along with Liggett got me hooked on TdF from the CBS/ESPN days
Hope “he will be dreaming of” rests in peace and his family and friends are at peace

Anyone that fell in love with the tour and cycling because of those early NBC broadcast has a hole in their heart today. RIP Paul...
