Looks like I'm going to the Pens/Preds game on March 4.

Erskine is just brutal in his own end. I don't understand why the Caps just don't roll with Orlov. Or even Hillen's boring competence.

Pretty big hit on Toews there though

What a weak goal to give up. I hope the Caps score just so that doesn't decide the game

For all the hockey newbies, welcome. Just don't sell out and be another "fan" of the Pens because of the ESPN love of Cindy Crosby/cute mascot.

Geaux Bruins - can't wait to see how this new Loui Eriksson line will do this year! Not happy that I have to wait until Thurs night to see it. Ordered my NHL Center Ice package today!

Give me Bruins/Blues for the Cup this year. Caps and racisthawks for the other conference finals teams.

Bruins all the way!

Anyone else think the current central division may be the worst, but can possibly be the best 2 years from now?

I could see it for sure, but for now the Hawks and Blues should have a field day I don't think I've ever seen a goal called on a breakaway penalty like they just did for the Hawks

Good win for the Hawks. Happy with the Caps play, except for Erskine.

Same, couldn't play much better than that in a loss. Orlov needs to replace Erskine. Caps look like they're having fun again finally. That PP..

Leafs take the Opener from the Habs at the Bell Centre
"The Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens met for the 720th time. And it showed.
Two teams that don’t like each other, but respect each other, renewed their great rivalry. There were fights, there were goals, there was great crowd atmosphere.
And the Leafs, looking better conditioned and a fair bit tougher, skated off with a 4-3 win Tuesday night to open their 96th season of hockey."

Thanks, Baloo!

Are there different philosophies or approaches to the game employed by certain teams?

The Kings? I will do more research before I pull the trigger.

Most definitely. You have your Neutral Zone trap teams which play tough defense and hope to beat you 2-1 (Devils, Wild, and Predators). You've got teams that play "fire wagon" hockey and try and score as many goals as they possibly can (Sharks, Caps, Canes).

You've got teams that go "stars and scrubs", putting out a killer first line and hope the bottom three don't give it away (Canucks, Lightning, Islanders, Ducks). You've got trams that are total team concepts, rolling four lines of nearly equal quality but without any superstars (Senators, Habs, Blues, Jets). You've got super old teams trying to go for one last run (Red Wings, Rangers) and super young up and coming teams (Oilers, Stars, Blue Jackets).

Watch a few weeks before throwing your hat behind one team. I'd still warn you off the Hawks, Kings, Bruins, and Pens. They are the best teams, but they are also in the middle of their runs. No one likes a bandwagon jumper. The first title is always the most fun. Gamble on a team trying to win their first in their current incarnation.

I like the sound of a Neutral Zone Trap team, or something like the Blues, where a team has four lines of near quality. Thanks! I will do more research.
