The Gilmour to Toronto trade was the franchise's worst until the Phanuef trade. Also to Toronto. Every two decades, the Flames feel the need to help out Canada's team by giving them a superstar essentially for free.

I heard somewhere that the NHL was hoping against hope to have a Toronto-Montreal Stanley Cup Final and Montreal wasn't going to the West. If there's any truth to that, who knows.
