that is one of the reasons college football had started to suck in my opinion.

Yeah, I am a Florida State fan and live on the west coast.

I'd never root for a team to do well just because they are a member of a team I root for conference.

Some seriously dumb shite

why is it such a big deal when they lose then?

hopefully it will shut "SEC" fans up and maybe just maybe the SEC will schedule 9 conference games and someone other then Sam Houston state out of conference.

My one hope regarding the playoffs is no more light weight OOC games.

fricking hate those and its a huge money grab from the fanbase.

If they aren't a rival, I disagree.

I was rooting for MSU today even though it did bring for my team. Same with Wisconsin.

I came home from the military one Christmas and it was a room full of LSU alums (fricking alums) wanting this sec team to win and that one to win? I was fricking confused

I blame the BCS. Seriously, just give us conference champions and put them in a playoff. I still can't believe we've only made it this far

You'll probably get your wish on that one.

For the past several years, it wasn't out of line to trumpet the SEC in an interconference dick measuring contest but it's clear now that, at the very least, the top of the Big 10 and PAC 12 have caught up. Sure, the top of the SEC will still be among the best teams in the country but there's nothing top to bottom (or even top to middle) special about the conference anymore.

I could never root for Carolina, Atlanta, or Tampa.

but thats just me.

rooting for your rivals isn't necessary unless its helping your own team.

I guess that is the fine line between pro ball and college ball.

Rooting for a rival is never necessary but it can be beneficial to have a team in what is perceived to be the most powerful conference. More money for your team and your team will get the nod over some other similarly qualified teams. Seems to be a benefit to me. Idk though.

As for your NFL comparison, there is absolutely no benefit to having other teams in the conference do well.

I actually agree with this in terms of NFL. Not only are the conferences smaller, but each other team in your NFL division is at least a small rival. Not to mention conference perception has nothing to do with your teams placement in post season games.

ETA:

Since we already beat MSU and Whisky and they aren't a rival there is no point not to root for them.

in a year like this one it was necessary at times to root for a NFC South rival.

whatever.

but talking college ball over the last several years was a joke around here.

you had some LSU fans still bowing to Saban's alter.

it was hilarious.

a bunch of bi polar individuals.

I will root for individual teams...

...I love Wisconsin football mostly because I got to go to a game in Madison a few years ago and I loved the place.

But I assure you, if I was a Michigan or Ohio State fan, I'd wish nothing but pox on the house of Wisconsin.

Dumbest shite ever. They need their hides tanned by a switch for being shitty LSU fans.

This plus a 6 team format using the NFL playoff model would be perfect. Everyone else gets the bowl games.

so that would explain you moooooooooooooooron why the SEC won a bunch of titles in a row.

Would have won another one this year if not for the playoff. Think about that and extrapolate backwards...
