Also, why couldn't they just fly already current D-1 Refs to wherever after their Sat games?

those dudes want to be in the NFL one day...they aren't going to put themselves in a situation where the other refs come back and they aren't in the good graces of them anymore. they don't wanna get in the middle.

....because they already turned down the NFL invite.

The top officials from the major conferences are doing what they want to do and have no desire to give it up for a few games in the NFL. The younger officials who do want to work their way into the NFL know they won't get there by crossing the line.

What you have right now is everyone else that's not employed by a conference or just want to say they called a few NFL games and then hang it up.

frick dignity. They are getting paid to do a cool dream job if ever a referee. And MAYBE you could be that one in 10 or 20 that the NFL keeps when they grade films.

If the replacements all walked, we'd be stuck with officials that are even less ready for primetime.

Red Cashion, who has about 40 years experience on the field and training NFL officials, says it takes about 5 years to prep a qualified official and not a single one of the replacements is on their development list. None of these guys were on any major conference's list much less have the knowledge and skills to make the NFL grade.

I think I'll go with Red's opinion over yours.

I know it looks easy, but just as rookies that come into the NFL with the exception or an extreme few, these refs need time to get adjusted to the game speed. It's not something that you can just jump into no matter how well you know the rules.

If these refs resign, then the NFL will have no choice but to pretty much make a deal with the real ones.

More people would be bitching is the NFL wasn't playing at all.

Accept the fact that the refs are not as good right now.

If not, request the NFL to shut down or just stop paying attention until things are the way you want them to be.

I am pretty sure that these guys was only making a few hunddred a weeks are now making a cool 2.5k per game. That is a lot of money that can feed people and their family.

If I have the chance I would take the money and tell the fan to kiss my arse. shite I'll handle some abuse for 3hour 2.5k job. shite, easiest job in the world. Heck I'd ride it till the wheels fall off.

My only problem with this is tvat the owners have shown some serious fricking stubborness about this and i dont think that would be enough

In fact just based on the NYTs report, i bet they would become even worse and say "well we cant give up now well look weak!!"

The NFL would throw out interns to ref the games if it cane down to that

Just think about it.

What ref in their right mind if given the opportunity that they have been given would resign?

They are reffing NFL football, they aren't filling in for a Nuclear Power plant operator.

Thank you. Nobody is forcing people to watch. Like a lot of talking heads are saying....we are STILL watching, going to games, etc. If you don't like it stop watching and going to games. Stick it to the NFL
