Another thing people don't mention is that Golf is played in various weather conditions, so you have to factor that in. Also we've heard of them making courses harder because of Tiger. They never had to tweak a swimming pool to make things harder for Phelps. What's up with Tiger Proofing golf courses.lol.
It's better to compare Phelps to Carl Lewis. Tracks and Pools don't change, golf courses do.
ETA: When you have to change a golf course to make things harder for ONE man that says a lot.
Totally agree

LOL. how about if tiger played every event. He plays about 11 events a year. He has still yet to show up at the TPC of Louisiana or at English turn when it was held their, or the other 35 small tourneys he never shows up too.
Baloo, you may be the dumbest fricking poster on this board.

If tiger wasted his time with the john deere, shell houston open, reno-tahoe, etc.....he would add 2-3 victories to his resume every single year

Why? Because I point out that Jack Nicklaus was the greast golfer ever and until tiger breaks his records, he's still #2? Even while acknowleding Tiger Woods is a great golfer.
Wow, what a crazy, unsupportable position. If your Tiger love is so weak that it can't withstand even the barest criticism, the problem lies with your own insecurities, not with me.
When rating any athlete all time, I always use this guiding principle: what if the active athlete's career ended today and he never played again? I do not like to geuss on what a guy may accomplish. When Tiger does pass Jack, we'll have the discussion again, and I'll likely agree Tiger is the greatest golfer ever. but until then... #2. Sorry.
Or was this thread not about a discussion and instead you just wanted a group circle jerk with people who all shared the same opinion?

Tiger plays against 155 other golfers everytime he tees it up.
but he doesn't get their best shot every single time.
Easy way to determine more dominant.....
If you life depends on
1) Tiger winning a golf tourny
2) Phelps winning a swim match
Who do you take with your life on the line? That would be the answer to who is more dominant.

like i said before. Can we make the bet? I say tiger ties or breaks jacks record by the end of the 2012 golf season. Thats 12 majors. He has to win 4 of them for me to win the bet.

why shaking your head port? i think it's a good topic.

No, because it just shows how utterly and compeltely you misunderstand my argument.
I'm not saying Tiger won't accomplish these things, I think the odds are good that he does. But until he does, he's not #1. A lot can happen in four years.
You're arguing as if Tiger has already won those four Majors. He has not. when he does, then, as I already said, I will likely agree with you that Tiger is the best ever. but not until then.

Impossible, pointless argument. All in one's opinion, and I doubt the scores of posts that have been made has changed one single mind.

even if he doesnt pass jack, what he has done over the past 10 years is what we are arguing about

My lunch break is almost voer and I have to get back to work. Feel free to quote me Karma.
Being the greatest ever isn't based on what we think you will do but what you have actually done. until Tiger, or Phelps for that matter, actually accomplishes their goals, they take a backseat to those who have already climbed the mountain.
Though seriously, give me Carl Lewis. He was awesome.

Which golf tourney? Which swim race? There are too many unknowns. When it is all said and done Tiger Woods will go down as the Greatest athlete every. The sad part is, Micheal Phelps wont even be in the top 5. (And I am a huge Micheal Phelps fan.)
Where was Mark Spitz in the comparison of greatest athlete ever or most dominant athlete ever before Micheal Phelps has a chance to break his record? Alot of people dont even know who the guy is. World records get broken every year. Swimmers get fasters, pools are designed better, and their suits are redesigned all the time.
Like the guy said earlier, No pool has ever been Phelps proof. Every golf course is getting changed b/c of Tiger. This shouldnt even be a fricking argument. Jack Nickalus cant even hold Tigers jock strap. That poor old white man knows his major record is going to get DEMOLISHED. Tiger is going to win 25+ majors.
