Agreed! He could easily be +5 just as easily tomorrow.

Why did McIlroy not play a single tourny in between the US and British Opens? They said he struggled with the speed of putts today, which is directly related to not playing much recently.

On a side note, I set my alarm, woke up to watch McIlroy, Fowler, and Els tee off, fell back asleep after their 2nd hole.

I stuck it out as long as I could, but crashed somewhere along 330-4. Not good if you have to be up for 7.

I'm so disappointed. All week the commentators have been talking about the impossible wind that has been making the course play riduculously tough. Now that the tournament has started the flag sticks are as calm as can be.

I dont understand why people keep picking Sergio in majors. Sure he's played good in a few lately and I don't mind the guy, but he's not going to win a major.

Edit: Also don't get when people hate on the look of the looks of an Open course. It's not what we are used to but it's what a golf course is supposed to look like. A goat ranch. Hills in the fairway and weeds and tall grass everywhere. Golf originated there and they like to keep it true to form. I love Augusta as much as the next guy, but this is beautiful in a different way to me.

I pick on Sergio cause I can't stand him.

Anyone think the weather is going to hold up today and I can get a round in?

Because it has turned into a "feel good" story. He was supposed to be so good, then he choked away so many chances, now people would like to see him finally break through.

This Tom Lewis kid is dynamo. -4 for the amateur. outstanding looking swing.

ETA: Make that -5 and tied for the lead through 17.

4 straight birdies.

This is great to watch. The kid is awesome.

I have 5 guys in my work pool(Kaymer, McDowell, Scott, Simpson, and Schwartzel). Four of them are under par and the other is at +1. I am feeling pretty good about my chances right now even though it is super early.

Does anybody know what kind of shoes Phil Mickelson is wearing? Every shot he plays is from the tall weeds.

He's still in decent shape, but in perfect weather conditions he blew a chance to get to 2 or 3 under.

Mickelson was lucky to finish E for the day. he hit it all over the place and didn't make much on the greens. Even par is a fantastic result for the way he played today. He didn't shoot himself out of the tourney on the first day at least.

They said Lewis qualified with borrowed clubs. His weren't legal.

Also that he didn't have enough money to stay close so he stayed at home. That I'm not buying. Sure he stayed at home bc it's probably close, not because his family couldn't afford it. To be a tour level player/amateur you have to have some money. And seeing as his dad played on the European tour for a number of years, I'm calling bs.

Who gives a shite where he is staying at night? He just scored the lowest round ever by an amateur at The Open Championship. Pretty amazing.

It's all heading south, so it might be even better at the end of the business day actually.

Ricky Barnes doing what he always does. Contend in majors. One of these days by odds alone he's going to accidently win one.

Are you saying that we should play basketball with peach baskets, or football with goalposts in the front of endzones, or playing baseball with 480 to center field? The reason I don't like this course is because it doesn't reward good shots like an American course does. A good golf course punishes bad shots and rewards good ones. If I hit the ball 275 yards down the center of the fairway and it hits off the side of a hill into the rough I have a right to be mad.
I want to see pro's stick approach shots to 5 feet not hit a running shot that may end up 15 feet from the hole.

Its not like they've ever changed from their ways. If you play links courses you expect that. You get good breaks and you get bad ones. Take your medicine when you get a bad one. It tests a players skillset and patience. I like that.
