Serena is deserving in the conversation of GOAT---always a great discussion----one just has to determine the criteria for GOAT and see if she meets it. if a lot of titles are required, then she does not make GOAT, if a lot of major wins or winning the grand slam is part of the criteria, then she is in the discussion. also, longevity is subject to debate as well---i think she qualifies for a long, success career, but without more titles, i would not say she is GOAT---one of the GOAT but not the GOAT. It is Graf or Martina---overall body of work

you're right, she should be in the convo for best ever. but she's not THE best ever. and the more I think about it, the more i realize it's almost impossible to compare the 70s and 80s era of tennis to today's era. two different games, it seems

I don't like the GOAT talk... All legends had their own dynasty...

Is Serena the most accomplished player of all time? No.

Is she the best? Quite possibly.

I would love to see her and Steffi Graf play in their primes. They are the two best players ever. You can argue 1 vs. 2, but that's as far s you can argue. No other female player has played at as high a level as Serena and Steffi in their respective primes.

Go on, argue that Chris Evert was better than Serena even though Chris Evert herself says she wasn't better than Serena. Argue away.

It's difficult, but we can try.

The way to normalize the argument is to look at how dominant a player was with respect to her peers. This is why I think Serena gets the nod over Chrissy and Martina. Chrissy was the best, but then Martina supplanted her and became the best, and then Steffi came along and supplanted Martina as the best (and this was before Martini was washed up).

And then Steffi ruled the women's game for a long time (with the exception of the two Seles years).

I realize Serena hasn't played a full schedule year in and year out, so a resume comparison doesn't work out in her favor. But what you can say for Serena is that, for the last 12 years, she has been the clear answer to the question "who is the best female player".

And I just want to thank Serena Williams for allowing me to make two hundred dollars today instead of losing twelve hundred dollars.

Here's to you Serena:

Graf would be a bad matchup for SW. That defensive backhsnd was a pain, and then with a big forehand. She was better amd mentally stronger. Grass would close the gap, but not so on hard or clay.

So, how are we feeling about the men's final? 90% chance of rain tomorrow morning at Wimbledon. Closing the roof would have to benefit Roger, no?

Serena won BET Award for Female Athlete of the Year in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011. Obviously the GOAT.

What the frick? Yes, closing the roof benefits Roger a lot. Murray needs the roof to be open to win this thing IMO, and I will be pulling for the roof to be open.

I'm betting that most of you are too young to have seen Martina in her prime. She revolutionized the game. Not only did she bring power to the women's game, she brought a bit of finesse as well. She could trade power backhands or passing shots with the best of them. She could dial up an ace pretty much at will. Also, there was no player in her era who could match her at the net.

I'll take Martina in her prime against anyone.

Martina Navratilova is the GOAT. Woman won a grand slam at 50. Albeit with a Brian brother as a partner, but still.

Closing the roof definitely benefits Roger. Without question.
