Nothing better than a Saturday with college football from 11 am until midnight, but the nfl's postseason product is definitely better

Outside of the browns game and the last part of rams seahawks...all 3 have at least been super competitive and could've gone either way.

I have zero interest in the NFL, but I thought a 4 team playoff would make college football even more exciting by keeping more teams in the game for longer and was definitely wrong about that. It's cratering outside of about 5 teams.

not sure about OSU. Maybe because they're in the Big 10 but they lose a lot. Clemson does too, and that young QB from UNC looks very good.

Of Ohio State’s last 4 classes 3 have been in the top 5 (not sure what happened in 19) and they have 14 5 stars

Clemson’s have been ranked 7, 10,3,4 with 14 5 stars as well

They’ll both be fine

They'll continue to win the Big 10, but they're falling behind the SEC again.

But what does that matter here?
They go undefeated next year they’re back in the final 4

All these blowouts make for a suit product. It’s not good football. 3 back to back CC blowouts. 4/7 haven’t been competitive in the least bit.

Reduce the scholarships already.

I admit I didn’t watch a ton of games this year but I found it interesting that most of the games that I did tune into Big 12 actually had the lower scoring and SEC was all shootouts.

Dont feel like researching to back it up with stats but just what I witnessed casually watching

I’ve enjoyed the NFL this year because it really is about the game.
I’m with others realizing college football is a pretty bad product without the pageantry.

But having only a handful of teams out of hundreds even having a chance at winning the Championship is absurd.

There are 32 teams in the league and while the saying "any given Sunday" holds true every single year, there are probably about four or five teams every year that are good enough to win the Super Bowl. Of the 64 or whatever P5 schools, there are probably about 10-12 schools who have the ability to go the distance at any given time.

10-12 P5 schools every year is a gross exaggeration. Even further, if any of those teams drops a game, or just happens to not be a popular name, they could easily be left out courtesy of the committee. You drop a game here and there in the NFL, but do well when it counts, and that's it. No popularity contest to worry about.

Further, feel free to do a comparison on the sheer number of blowouts (Let's say a margin of victory of greater than 14) every year in CFB vs the NFL. CFB is truly a case of throwing so many games at the wall in hopes that at least 1 game is good, even if the overwhelming majority is hot garbage. NFL has had a better success rate by a long shot, despite a blowout every now and then.

This is not to say the NFL is perfect, but it's pretty asinine to even attempt to defend CFB in these particular topics.

I used to think this was crazy talk, but the last few years, and especially after this year, it’s starting to not sound so crazy.

As others have said, without the pageantry and meaningful rivalries, CFB is simply a lower quality version of the NFL. It feels just as corporate, all the top teams run similar concepts so all it is is a race to get the best players with which to do so.

There is Alabama and Clemson, with occasionally OSU, then whatever sacrificial lamb gets hot between OU, Notre Dame, UGA, or Big 10/Pac 12 team. There have only been 11 different schools to ever make the CFP.

Yes, but people don't watch CFB for a refined product.

In the last 10 years there’s been 6 teams that have won the national title
In the last ten in the NFL there’s been 9

I agree. The qualify of football is better because the athletes are better and the coaching is better and the league has parity by design.

I think college football is in trouble given that the playoffs were basically not competitive and the discrepancy between the top programs and the rest of the programs is problematic. If CFB is going increasingly into the direction of paying players and allowing them to earn income this makes it even more of a minor league for the NFL. Ask yourself how many people have passion for minor league baseball nationally? Does anyone care about the top teams in AAA? Of course many of us will still love CFB and LSU, but I can see CFB being more like CBB.

Some of you would've hated the NFL in the 80's and 90's. Blowout Super Bowls galore. The NFC dominating the AFC for 13 consecutive years. The salary cap saved them.
