That in itself is worth it.

Pretty cool article on those pickup runs:

The weights that Mike used to work out with, after he finished using them, Clint Eastwood bought them. They ended up being a part of his regiment. He used them because they said he was pretty serious about his workouts prior to that, but the novelty of that being Michael Jordan’s gear kind of added something to it. He definitely used them.

It’s not selective I just went with the midpoint of the decade. You can’t compare eras then say “but but but the rules” when you never make those arguments against rule changes that benefit offense in the current era. In 98 season, after it was moved back, the difference in that number was 1 attempt per game so your attack really doesn’t have merit. And you’re also comparing a decade or more to a 3 year stretch which is also an extremely uneven comparison, the NBA 3 point attempts leader has jumped from 26 to 44 per game in the last 4/5 years.

I agree and I think I know what you’re saying by formulaic. Most teams are doing the same thing now days, without hand checking the offense is basically turn the corner on your man and either get to the hoop or if the help comes move the ball and keep it ahead of the rotation until you get an open 3. The speed and space of the game is entertaining on some level and it makes the game easier to follow for novice fans but for someone who’s been involved in basketball for almost 30 years i prefer the intricacies and depth of a continuous offense. Now I like the 3s it’s what I did when I played and I like that it’s cleared out the congestion that plagued the 90s but post play is an art and can be just as fun to watch and you have to have defense in sports. We don’t want basketball to end up like baseball with a singular type player at every position and that’s where too much analytic based thinking will lead you. I get what you’re saying about Pippen but he’s part of a team in a playoff situation you gotta be able to see that and not just him.

One big thing I took out of last night's episodes was the fact that MJ did not talk to Sports Illustrated after they botched the baseball cover.

He holds grudges forever. It's apparent in a number of ways in this doc.

Media today compared to them is night and day. Today’s media covers and excuses any behavior from NBA players.

its disjointed story telling and doesnt really create any form of lasting narrative. this absolutely, 100% could and should have been made better, but its still entertaining as all hell even if its mostly surface level stuff
Just reading this... and you are so, so wrong

People love to use the phrase 'disjointed story telling' when movies and shows don't take a linear path, when in actuality, it's perfectly effective story telling and they have no idea what they're talking about.

I think the jumping around would seem less jarring had these been viewed on consecutive nights (which may have been the original plan) like the OJ doc.

I don't understand complaints about the storytelling.
There are two timelines. The first is the 97-98 season timeline, which advances every episode.
The second is the timeline of MJ's time with the Bulls. Both are running in a completely chronological fashion.
It's just two chronological narratives, one being a single season, the other being the leadup to that season.

I'm not complaining about it, I'm fine with it but I do think the complaints about it would be less if viewed consecutively

I didn't mean to target you. I am just surprised people find it hard to follow.
In any episode, you just see the next thing in chronology. If you see the 92-93 season, you know MJ's retirement is next.
It's very linear, although it is a story I know pretty well. That would be my biggest criticism of it so far, that there's nothing below the surface. It reminds me of The U, which I also enjoyed watching, but didn't think had a ton of depth.
