All I think of is that the network that airs the game talked them into it, assuming that getting a team from somewhere near Chicago might get more eyeballs and the same number of fans.
But I can't imagine that Chicago gives a shite

On the other hand, I know some Cajun fans that both attend and cheer for the Tigers. It's a real shame the small population of bad fans give the entire fanbase a bad rap. I work for a company out of Lafayette, and they got off every time LSU lost this season.
I agree with this.

Bad move by the Indy Bowl. LaTech and ULL might not fill up a ton of hotel rooms, but it would at least be a full gate. Truly, how many N. Illinois fans will travel to Shreveport to make this worthwhile? When the Indy Bowl has a Big 12 and SEC team in, those fans will travel in bunches - even if they're mad about "only" getting the Indy bowl. UL was so happy to make a bowl - and to play LaTech, who they dislike - they would have made an excuse to make a weekend party out of it.

As of Sunday afternoon, CMU's opponent was unclear for the Dec. 26 game at Ford Field. San Jose State (6-6) of the WAC and Louisiana Lafayette (6-6) and Florida Atlantic (6-6) of the Sun Belt are possible candidates.

Interesting, maybe their is still hope? I'm sure the 6-6 WAC team will get the nod...

you'd think a bowl that was going broke would at least go for the local draw to get ticket sales up

Florida Atlantic Athletic Director Craig Angelos is optimistic the Owls football team will receive a bid to the Motor City Bowl in Detroit.
Motor City Bowl officials are deciding whether or not to invite the Owls and will make their decision after 8 p.m. tonight. Central Michigan already has announced it will play in the Dec. 26 Motor City Bowl as the Mid-American Conference's representative.

Inside FAU
Owls may be headed to Motor City Bowl
All that lobbying and selling and pleading may have paid off for Craig Angelos and Howard Schnellenberger. ...
The only teams remaining at this time to fill out the final spot in the bowls are FAU and Arkansas State of the Sun Belt, San Jose State and two MAC teams, Northern Illinois and Bowling Green. The bowl is not likely to pair two teams from the same conference. All are 6-6.
"We're looking pretty good," Angelos said. "It would be huge."

According to the Advertiser, the Cajuns are still in contention. Cross your fingers...

As of 6 Sunday night UL's football was one of four teams being considered for an at-large slot in the Motor City Bowl on Dec. 26 in Detroit, according to that bowl's executive director Ken Hoffman.
Hoffman told The Daily Advertiser that UL, Arkansas State, Florida Atlantic and San Jose State are being considered to play Central Michigan in the bowl.
"We have four schools to select from, unless one accepts another bowl opportunity," Hoffman said. "We are very close to making a decision, but can't do anything until Western Michigan's bowl decision is made official."
Hoffman hoped to have the Motor City Bowl's at-large spot filled by 6:30 p.m. (CT) to beat the 7 selection show on ESPN. If the decision's not made by then, he figured it would be final by 7 or 8:30 tonight.
UL was also being considered for the Texas Bowl on Dec. 30 in Houston, but FOX 26 in Houston is reporting that Western Michigan is going to the Texas Bowl.
Notre Dame, which was rumored to be considering the Texas Bowl and Independence Bowl (Dec. 28 in Shreveport), but a source close to the situation said the Fighting Irish are going to the Hawaii Bowl on Dec. 24 in Honolulu.
