Congrats on remaining the shittiest poster on the site.
It's his fault for not surrounding himself with people he could trust.

You all who are thinking this is about the money are sadly mistaken. This is about someone who has, in his mind, lost the reason to live. Basketball was his reason to live and what gave him so much of the opportunities he had. With his great fall from grace in the NBA came all of the effects; poor money choices, alcoholism, and family and friends problems. This is much bigger than money.

It is amazing how many pro athletes end up broke
It almost feels like it's part of the narrative now. There are a lot of socioeconomic factors that contribute to this occurrence, though. You've got kids from underprivileged backgrounds that never had shite growing up, suddenly they're blessed with the buying power to do virtually anything they want. The flipside to that is they have no concept of how sustainable those sums of money are -- it probably feels like Monopoly money to them. Why should they invest, have a 401k, shite like that, when the amount of money they have defies any understanding of finance they've ever had? They piss it away, sometimes frivolously, and then they wind up on a 30 for 30 special a few years down the road.
The saddest cases aren't the ones where they just piss it away, it's the ones where you see a series of investments that just went completely under and know that somebody probably told them it was a good idea at the time.
ETA: I agree they should have the foresight to secure the services of some kind of financial advisor -- that being said, go into the projects and ask some of those kids if they know what a financial advisor is. It's a completely different and FOREIGN world for the athletes with this narrative. I agree with the poster that said part of being drafted/signing a contract should be some sort of basic money management course. That or the leagues should partner with/have a list of financial advisors that they consider to be reputable (i.e., not out to screw over the athletes) and recommend them to athletes.

few minutes before 8 o’clock, a black Suburban pulls into the players’ parking lot. At 7:59, the passenger door opens, and Iverson climbs out, shouting profanity.

I'm not dumb enough to think this is just a money issue, just tired of seeing people that stand up for him saying he got "screwed" in life.
People are accountable for their own frick ups.

"over-priveledged frickhead" that's when you know idiotic people are jealous of someone. These guys put in years of hard work since they were tots to become that good. They should be rewarded big after the journey, just so sad to see AI's journey go this route.

read the cliffsnotes.. dont feel bad. idiot should have managed his money better. it IS HIS OWN FAULT. he was an adult with a job making a ridiculous salary.. he pissed it all away and that is his fault.
and whoever said he lived up to the potential 2-3 times you are crazy... ai could flat out play, and i hate to hear people say he was one of the best little men... he was one of the best point guards of all time, and THE best scoring pg of all time.

I am almost positive that he doesn't care about the money as much as he wants closure to his careee, money isn't his personal issue.

Who said that.lol. Most people think he screwed himself with his decision making. He could have easily taken classes in Philly to get his degree. He should have tried to go into broadcasting with Fox Sports, ESPN, TNT, etc.
Hell Shaq went on and got his degree, masters and PHD and now doing TV shows, broadcasting, etc. AI wanted to gamble and party.

Thank you. People act like these guys just have "natural" talent. If that's the case there would easily be TONS of people making it to the NBA.
