For a couple years, Stephen A. Smith's sole purpose was to give up Allen Iverson updates.

try about 10 years

And every update was this: "Racist old white man Larry Brown being mean to my man AI for no reason!"

It's obvious that he has some pretty major issues beyond just being "bad with money".

Sad story but sometimes it's up to you to recognize that there is a problem.

Iverson stood during a divorce proceeding in Atlanta in 2012 and pulled out his pants pockets. “I don’t even have money for a cheeseburger,” he shouted toward his estranged wife, Tawanna, who then handed him $61.

The story goes Iverson would never pack for trips. He would just buy new clothes in his new destination. He also carried around hundreds of thousands of dollars with him at all times. Someone looked out for him with the trust fund though.

Wow that is so sad that someone with that much money, and now he does not have enough to survive.

It is disappointing to see a great star flame out like this, but I wouldn't call it sad. It was his own habits that caused his situation.

Why? It's not like it's a handout it's money he earned.

No shite. People loved him because of his potential. Potential he lived up to once or twice; the rest of the time he was an over-privileged frickhead.

He got what he deserved.

This is dumb. 6'0'' 165 lb players don't average 26 PPG and 6 Ast for a career if they lived up to their potential once or twice.

You don't think he got screwed on business deals? You don't think his ex-wife and "friends" took advantage of him?

That doesn't make it self-inflicted.

It is amazing how many pro athletes end up broke. I don't feel bad for them, just incredibly frustrated. They have opportunities that most people only dream of and a lot of them completely waste them.

Does anyone know if any of the sports leagues have any kind of classes to tell these kids about money management?
