The disparity of 'grizzled old veteran' coaches in the NFL vs CFb

Seems like every NFL playoff staff has a coordinator or two that are about 60+ and have been around the league for decades. Spagnuolo and Wink Martindale are two prime examples just today.
Dick LeBeau coached till he was 80.
Wade Phillips was in the NFL for 45 yrs and is still coaching in the USFL.
But when was the last time you saw a coordinator in CFB that was over 60??
Hell, besides head coaches, when was the last time you saw a coach of any position in CFB at all that was that age?
I guess, at some point, you just get tired of a circus where your livelihood revolves around the decisions of 17-19 yr olds...

I’d love to have a couple of beers with Martindale. Dude looks like an absolute old baw.

Old guys probably hate the recruiting

Bobby Petrino is over 60. Not sure if he qualifies as grizzled

JoePa’s corpse was still “coaching”

I think his situation probably deserves asterisk to any rule...

Phil Parker, Iowa DC, turns 60 in March. Iowa hired him as DB coach in 1999, promoted to DC in 2011. He’s arguably the most underrated coordinator in college football. Dude routinely puts out top 10 defenses while paired with a bottom feeder offense and spits out NFL players from mediocre recruiting classes. He will be there until Ferentz goes, and he is 67.
Ferentz hired his 30 something son as OC and he is easily the weakest link.

Good NFL coordinators eventually become NFL head coaches. If they fail as a HC, it isn’t hard for them to find another coordinator position, especially defensive coaches.
Failed head coaches at big college programs usually have dozens and dozens of other HC options at smaller schools.
The NFL is also slower than colleges to incorporate new concepts, so experienced coordinators are valued more than innovative younger coaches.

I don't see how anyone enjoys flying around the country to try an convince 17 year olds to go to their school while eating their moms shitty cooking and then kissing their arse daily on the phone and text.

Pete Jenkins when at LSU comes to mind.

Todd Monken is 54. He seems to be doing just fine.

Monken would probably go back to the NFL if he could, but the pay ($2M) and personell advantage he has at Georgia is probably going to keep him there for a while.

Coaching college football is exhausting and it’s by far as demanding as it’s ever been right now with social media, NIL, transfer portal, etc.
It’s all a race to keep up too. Because of everything mentioned above, schools have to offer more camps, and 7on7s in the summer, and they have to show up for recruiting showcases. You’re constantly trying to one up everyone and down time has been rapidly decreasing for college coaches.
I’d imagine the NFL has changed too, but not nearly as much as it has in college football. At some point it’s going to be too much for those who have a family. It’s very much a young man’s profession now as it is

Steve Ensminger was in his 60s when LSU won the title

I've watched Jeff Stoutland head to the NFL and immediately thought about all the pressure to babysit these kids. Brian Daboll was not an older man at BAMA and he knew what he wanted and it wasn't the college game. To each his own.

There was a year where O was basically running a retirement home at LSU
