It's hilarious to me how Butch still can't really admit in hindsight that they should have went Ben. He can't bring himself to make a positive statement towards Ben's career without bringing up how much they loved Rivers (who was gone by pick #6) or how great Winslow would have been if he wasn't made of glass. Classic.

he was a 22nd pick and was projected as a top 10 pick. Really don't see what's so crazy about that

He's a 6 foot coke addict, that's what's so crazy about it.

Brees avg stats the last 3 years:

68.7% comp pct
4995 yds
35 TDs
13 Ints
100.9 QB rating

Roethlisberger:

66.4% comp pct
4384 yds (note Ben missed 5 games this year to injury)
24 Tds
13 Ints
96.6 QB Rating

I wonder how much better Brees would look with the best WR in the league + best RB.

I'm a big Brees homer, but just eyeballing it on pro football reference for that time frame, they are pretty close on YPA. Should also factor in Brees having some historically awful defense and playing in a dome 10 or so times a year vs. having some okay defense and being in the AFC North, both of which inflate stats in Brees' favor.

Of all the guys they've had since they came back into the League, I believe they've only drafted Couch, Quinn, and Manziel in the 1st Round.

They drafted Brandon Weeden 22nd overall in 2012, exactly 2 years before drafting Manziel in the same spot.

The Weeden draft was the same one in which they traded up to take Trent Richardson at #3. What a terrible draft that was for them.

Ben was horrible in the first Super Bowl he played in, but the Steelers don't make the Super Bowl that year without his play in the playoffs.

Ben was money in all 3 playoff games that year. Also keep in mind, that was only his 2nd season in the league.
