NOT like this at all. I dont know of a Browns fan that ever cheered for the Ravens at any time.
Exactly.
I remember that since the whole thing was going down around Christmas they took the words to "Let it snow" and changed it to "Go to Hell, Art Modell, Go to hell"
Its partly emotional, but its mostly because that isn't their team. It's very hard to explain unless one goes through it. It's half emotional and half complete disinterest and disgust.

why?
They play in Cleveland, they are called the Browns. Why would their ties to Jim Brown be stronger if they were not out of the league for 3 years? He still played in cleveland, for the Brows, in the 60's.
it's history .. to me it's about the continual history of the franchise more than the nickname .. sure, the uniform, helmet, etc. look exactly alike .. but i have just never personally looked at the current browns as the original browns .. i remember their first win as the new browns was in the dome against the saints and all the national media was jumping up and down exclaiming that the saints were the only franchise in NFL history to be the victims of two expansion teams' first wins (tampa bay in was the other) ... so even the national media didn't really grasp that concept ..

Are you a Browns fan? Ive been one for 40+ years and they have been and always will be the Browns to me.

I was there, one sweet moment for the Browns and Tim Couch. Ditka laying face down on the turf!

I dont know where you even get this.

Cleveland kept the name/rights to the Browns when they left.

That's still sort of a contrived way of looking at it.
Like it or not, the current Browns are nothing but a 10 year old expansion team. You can't simply pretend your history with this team is somehow contiguous to your history with the other team by sheer force of will.
I agree it sucks for you, as much as it sucks for old Colts fans, and Oilers fans. I don't hold much the same sympathy for folks in St. Louis or L.A., though.

I dont see how it compares to these situations at all. In all of those cases the teams moved and never came back. In Clevelands case we just stopped playing football for 4 years then started again. A special one of a kind deal with Cleveland because of its rich history.

Indianapolis Colts fans strike me as so historically football illiterate, I'd be surprised if half of them even knew who Johnny Unitas was.
I swear, some of them come across as though they think Peyton Manning invented the game.

Whether you like it or not (and as I said, I COMPLETEY understand why you don't like it - the situation sucked), Modell moved your team in almost exactly the same way that it happened in Baltimore in Houston.
Just because you want to semantically try to turn it into a "different" situation, does not make it so.

No he didnt move my team. He took the players under contract and a box of his shite from his office. The Browns stayed in Cleveland.
Your allowed to be wrong though, thats the beauty.

Being guarranteed a new team is not semantics. The Browns left and the NFL swooped in immediately and made sure the Browns got a new team. Cleveland didn't really have a time period when they didn't have the Browns. Even when the team wasn't there, they new they were getting a replacement team.
Houston and Baltimore had to walk through the wilderness without a team and try and beg to get a new one. The NFL granted Houston an expansion team after making them wait. If the NFL had their way, Baltimore NEVER would have gotten a team.

And that's different from what Bob Irsay and Bud Adams did how?
I contend if any of these three cities deserved the sweetheart semantic deal Cleveland cut, it would be Baltimore.
Basically, y'all have Baltimore and the discontented Colts fans to thank for the deal you were able to cut.
I don't understand why you want to shite on those cities, and not grant them the same status.

They weren't saying it was the first win in franchise history. The 99 Browns were put together like an expansion franchise, so their first win in that season was like losing to an expansion team.
I guess I really don't understand your point. Should Cleveland fans count the 2000 Ravens as a title just because some of those players, the owner, GM etc where in Cleveland 4 years before? Should they not view Jim Brown as part of their history, but rather as part of the Ravens history?
Were people in New Orleans fired up when the Jazz went to the NBA Finals?

Its about the city where they play. The fans in Houston will always remember the Luv Ya Blue days, no matter that that franchise is no longer here. Having that as part of the Tennessee Titans legacy cheapens it for both. People in Nashville did not care when it happened and don't remember it fondly. The legacy should stay with the city.

No, I honestly find it an interesting discussion. I promise.
ETA, I'm sorry you see it that way because that's not what I'm trying to do at all. It's an odd dynamic, no doubt.

A one of a kind arrangement in the history of sports, just for the city and Cleveland Browns fans.

Agree 100% then again, I'm from Baltimore. We got screwed and to make up for it, when Baltimore finally got back in the league (by eventually refusing to play Charlie Brown to the NFL's Lucy), they give Cleveland the sweetheart deal they never gave us. Viewed in this prism, the "poor Cleveland" deal the NFL brokered is one last frick you to Baltimore.
We got shite on for 13 years, and then we get cast as the villains. frick Cleveland.
BTW, YA finally did it. He got me to say what I truly think and how much burning resentment I have towards Cleveland. I would have KILLED to have gotten their deal. Keep the Colts but lose Irsay? All we have to do is go four seasons without a team, and then we get it all back PLUS a new stadium without the evil as hell owner? Where do I sign up?
My fiancee still tells me stop flipping off Mayflower trucks.

I actually like the continuity with the name, and I think it's good to be able to look back at say, Jim Brown, as being part of your team.
But, what do folks in Baltimore and Houston do with Unitas and Campbell?
I really think a lot of the heartbreaking stories you used to always here about old Colts fans (the marching band, Unitas, Al Ameche, etc.) is a huge part of the reason the NFL granted that status to Cleveland. That's not meant as a slight on you, your team, or your city. The fact that Modell moved to Baltimore made it all the more ironic, I suppose.
