That 2012 AO final was horrible. Boring baseline bashing with no variety and 2 players afraid to come to net to try and finish points, if I want an endurance contest I'll watch the Tour de France. Good tennis is about variety and contrasting styles, not 2 superhumans playing wallball aided by PED.

I have to disagree. When Novak and Rafa get matched up, there is something about styles that I think makes for epic tennis. Until I had to trade in my cable box, I would have that 2012 Aussie final just looping on my television. It became like background noise.* I don't see how somebody can watch that match and not think it's awesome. There is nothing defensive about the way those guys are playing. It is offensive tennis played from the baseline, and played as well as I've seen it played.

I agree that that Novak/Murray matches don't make for great viewing. Their styles seem to frustrate each other. It doesn't work for me. But Novak and Rafa -- with Rafa hitting his best shot right into Novak's wheelhouse -- is primetime viewing for me. Those guys can play the game.
