#5

The Reds retired that number twice. The first time was in the 1940s when the player wearing #5 committed suicide during the season. Two years later the Reds decided that retiring someone's number because he killed himself wasn't a good idea, so they reissued it. It was also at the same time that most popular sports icon, DiMaggio, was wearing #5.

That puts ARod, Schmidt, Joe Morgan, Pujols, Ripken, and freaking Adrian Beltre as your top infielders (by WAR) of the last 50 years.

I believe this, but it is really, really surprising to me that Beltre has a higher career WAR than Chipper

In other words, Trout has become Mickey Mantle.

I have been thinking that is exactly who he is like, without the leg problems so far at least, hope he stays healthy to see how much he can do.

I love Chipper Jones as a player but I think it was evident that Beltre was a better total player. They are similar players offensively with Chipper having an edge (and being an all time great at his position) but Beltre’s offensive numbers arent chump change. 286/339/480/819 with 477 HR’s. Beltre is an all time great defender at 3rd with 226 runs saved vs Chipper’s -5 which is where he makes up the difference.

This troll was funny.

ETA: Trout deserves a better team
