Choo will get overpaid by someone like the Mets.

Choo is a lot better than Bourn though

They've been fairly close by WAR for their careers.

Choo is a much better hitter, though, so I agree he will command more money.

Does Choo still have the threat of having to return to China for military duty hanging over his head?

Na, korea won or place in some international event a couple years back and the entire team was excused from service

David Price expects to be traded. What would it take to get him? What kind of long term deal would he command?

IMO throwing Carpenter in the 8th isn't what did us in. It was this:

.214 BA
.290 OBP
Getting out hit 46 - 28, out homered 7 - 1 and outscored 26 - 14

Don't get me excited. My pants just got a little tighter.

I'm going to assume we get Maddon in the deal as well. Dream Big!

I can't believe I'm already searching for hope for next season but this would get me really pumped if we could land a true dominant SP. Hopefully those who know the ins and outs of our payroll/farm system won't dash my dreams

More than would be worth giving.

James Shields yielded one of the top 2-3 prospects in baseball.

We really need to stop with the big trades and FA signings IMO. Aside from Kevin Towers letting Wren trade rape him with Justin and BABIP for Prado and Delgado, we have gotten Uggla, BJ, Lowe, Nasty Nate, and Kawakami. For whatever reason players tank when they get here unless we drafted them. Not to mention the amount of money we will need to invest in Freeman, Heyward, and Simmons (if he improves a bit at the plate) in the not so distant future. Do we really want to invest 80 million into another guy who ends up being garbage?

There's zero chance we trade for Price. And knowing what it would take to get him, there's zero reason we should try to.

Well, recent history hasn't been great, but guys like Maddux, McGriff, Galarraga, Sheffield, Smoltz... all were FAs/trades, all were wildly successful.

That was a long time ago, under a different GM, and without our current TV contract planted three feet up our arse. I'd rather use the money lock up guys already on the team and go from there. Our farm system is pretty depleted compared to a few years ago anyway.

I agree that our priority should be locking up Freeman, Heyward, and Simmons, but I would still check in on Price. You never know.
Maybe they are missing BJ

Uggla, BJ, BABIP, and Laird for Price and Longoria.

Well, I think we're all on the same page there.

It's nice that we have the youngest team in baseball. This really shouldn't have been "our" year in terms of the fact that all of our key guys are still not at their peaks, except maybe Justin, and he's more at the beginning of his.

The problem is none of our young guys want to sign extensions.
