He's shown enough flashes to warrant a bullpen spot. He can help us win... I rather spot start and give him some low pressure bullpen time than have him go to Triple A.

Upton brothers discuss wearing Atlanta uniforms

quote:

"It's been a big conversation of ours," B.J. Upton said. "Obviously, he's got another three years [before he's a free agent]. Is it a possibility? Yes. Is it going to happen? We don't know. But it's definitely something that we are going to talk about."

If a current Brave had 3 years left on his contract and was already talking about the possibility of playing with his brother on another team, I wouldn't hold it against Wren if he traded him. Maybe all of this public talking will make it more likely that Towers gets rid of him without Wren having to include Simmons.

Simmons is untouchable, IMO. He's not going anywhere.

So as of right now...?

Upton 8
Prado 5
Heyward 9
Freeman 1
McCann 2
Uggla 4
Simmons 5
*Diaz 7
Medlen/Hudson/Minor/Maholm/Delgado 1

*Obviously Diaz won't be our starting left fielder, just putting him in as a placeholder.

Yeah Upton is not leading off. Not the plan at least.

I agree as it stands now Simmons is the lead off hitter. Prado staying in the 2..

There's very, very few people I'd be willing to give him up for.

It's just too damned hard to find a playable SS, much less one with the chance to be an all-timer defensively.

eta: And Justin Upton isn't one of them.

I saw a guy today on a FB thread call him a top of the rotation guy. Have I been watching a different pitcher these last 2 seasons?

Apparently, but you've been watching the real Hanson. He's a bum.

He was not last year but he has been in the past. Anyhow it's all been discussed, feel free to scroll back a couple of pages rather than cherry pick... then you'd understand what I'm saying.

It's clearly guys who haven't been watching Hanson pitch very often, just looking at stats on paper. Like looking at his K rate, and ignoring the fact that it only stayed decent because he was overthrowing to compensate for his loss of velocity, which led to way less control and higher walk rates, plus making him more hittable with higher HR rates, which in turn led to shorter outings.

Hanson's shoulder problems are always going to be there most likely, which is obvious to anyone who has watched him pitch and decline the past few years. Glad we got a decent middle reliever for him before he turned into a complete pumpkin like Jair.

I read everything you said and it's all silly. He's gotten progressively worse every season, lost velocity every year, and lost command every year. He's done. There's no reason to keep him and 4 million could be spent so much better by the organization.
