as the guy said above if heyward would have been safe then runners could advance. with two outs the runner must be thrown out. if the bases had been loaded all the catcher would have had to do is touch home. with less than two outs there has to be a base open to be able to advance. for example, if there are no outs and a runner at first heyward would have automatically been out.
