Any time a ball is put into play lately, I just assume something disastrous is going to happen and find myself surprised when a routine ground ball doesn't result in 2 unearned runs.

Watching Shaun Marcum pitch is comparable to watching paint dry.

have you watched this offense lately? not exactly tearing it up. Why not try to manufacture a run??

Because playing for 1 run in the 5th inning is always a dumb idea.

I don't think playing for runs is ever a bad idea in baseball.

He wasn't playing for runs, he was playing for 1 run, which is the key difference. What Fredi did there is statistically likely to result in far less runs being scored over the course of a season. The only reason to do that is in hopes of a sac fly, a single will score the person from 2nd most of the time anyway, particularly Schafer.

And considering how much our batters strike out as well as how we are one of the best at hitting HRs, sac bunts outside of the pitcher or the end of the game when we just need one run to win are flat out retarded. It was a 3-3 game at the time, playing for one run when it doesn't better your chances at scoring all that much is just silly.

I get you're into stats and shite. thats cool. But what you just said made zero baseball sense for this team. They're in an offensive slump, have trouble getting productive outs and K a shite load. does your equation have variables for this kind of stuff? Probably not.

we hit HR and K so we shouldn't try to manufacture runs?
